Surulere Sport City FC Clinches 2013/2014 Lagos Junior League !

The 2013/2014 Season of the Lagos Junior League came to a climax with Surulere Sport City FC sealing the Premier League title with a hard fought 2-0 victory over Onigbongbo Ultimate Strikers at the Epe stadium on Sunday evening.

Despite Y.M.D. Babes of OJO winning their final match 3-0 against whipping boys Apapa Iganmu their chances of securing a title victory relied solely on Onigbongbo Fc causing an upset in their match against the boys from Surulere.

Onigbongbo FC wasn’t up to the task and restricted OJO to a second place finish. The OJO team will rue missing the title but will be delighted with their consistency after finishing second two seasons in a row.

Ifako Ijaiye FKJ United sneaked into third place on the final day at the expense of Apapa Golden stars who failed to pick a point against relegation bound Ayayo Fc of Imota. Apapa Golden Stars have now finished fourth place two seasons in a row and both times have slipped close to the finish line.

Agege Giants took advantage of Onigbongbo FC’s loss to hold on to fifth place. The Agege team will be pleased with their 2013/14 season coming fifth in their first season in the premier division of the LJL.

In League 1 final round of matches, Orile Agege sealed the 2013/2014 League 1 Title with a 3-0 victory over Ikorodu Central. Ibeju Lekki edged out Egbe Idimu to second place on goals aggregate while Lekki FC and Bariga FC completed the top five teams in League 1.

Lagos Junior League : WEEK 19 MATCH PREVIEW

20140329-073758.jpg

The final week of the Lagos Junior League 2013/2014 Season has finally arrived, Surulere FC suffered a first half scare in their outstanding match against Oshodi Isolo but rallied back to win the game 2-1 at the Legacy pitch on Wednesday evening.

Oshodi who virtually extinguished Apapa Golden Stars’ title hopes last week looked set to repeat the feat against Surulere FC scoring a goal early in the first half. The Surulere side looked stretched and struggled to contain Oshodi in a torrid first half.

After the restart the Sport City boys looked more composed and quickly returned the favour exposing Oshodi’s weaknesses and scoring two goals in quick succession to finally take pole position in the final round of matches.

Surulere FC have to contend with Onigbongbo ultimate strikers at the Epe stadium on Sunday evening. It is a must win for Surulere team if they intend to win the Premier League title this season.

20140329-073832.jpg

Y.M.D. Babes of OJO will take on Apapa Iganmu in what is most likely a mismatch at Alade stadium on This evening. A win for OJO is the most plausibe scenario but OJO FC’s focus will be on the result of the match at Epe between Onigbongbo Ultimate Strikers and Surulere FC.

In other Premier League encounters, Eti Osa East will take on Lagos Island, Oshodi will face Lagos Island East while Ajeromi Ifelodun will host Itire Ikate. Mosan Okunola will travel to face Odi Olowo while Agege and Mushin will tango at the Legacy pitch, surulere on Sunday evening.

In League 1, Orile Agege only require a draw to win the division when they face Ikorodu Central on Saturday afternoon.

Egbe Idinmu drubbed Ojodu 5-0 in the final match of the season and will fall to third if Ibeju Lekki win their final match against Ifelodun FC. Lekki FC’s fate as fourth is sealed inspite the outcome of their match against Epe Alaro.

Bariga FC narrowly edged Ojodu Fc to fifth place on goals difference. Shomolu FC, Yaba FC, Ikosi Isheri and Agbado Oke Odo are set to complete the top ten.

Lagos junior League, Sports City FC and Y.M.D Babes secure maximum points

Week 18 of the premier league was one of mixed feelings for the top teams, While Surulere Sport City FC and Y.M.D Babes of OJO secured the much needed maximum points in their pursuit of the title, Apapa Golden Stars and Ifako Ijaiye FC suffered presumable fatal blows to their title ambitions.

Qudus Yussuf’s 77th minute goal was what gave Surulere victory over Ifako Ijaiye at the Legacy pitch on Sunday evening.

The highly tactical, technical and emotional encounter was a joy to watch as it provided excitement and a dose of unpredictability.

Before the encounter both teams were level on points but Ifako had a superior goals difference.

Ifako Ijaiye was notably the dark horse in this year’s title race but they gave a good account of themselves on the day.

Surulere’s victory puts them firmly in a good position to seal the title this season.

Apapa Golden stars slumped 2-0 to a resilient Oshodi Isolo side on Sunday morning at the Legacy pitch.

The Oshodi boys put up a spirited performance that effectively snuffed out Apapa’s threat.

The defeat cast a huge dent on Apapa’s title aspitations. On the other hand OJO Babes whitewashed Oriade FC 10-0 to seal Oriade’s fate of demotion from the prestigious premier league.

Surulere FC will face in-form Oshodi Isolo on Wednesday in their outstanding match. The encounter is scheduled for the Legacy pitch by 4pm.
