Eagles Didn’t Play To Style Against Greece-Keshi…Says Players Were Desperate To Impress… Team Will Play Better Against USA
Super Eagles Manager, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi came hard on his team when he said the team did not play to style in the international friendly against the Greece national side that ended goaless in Philadelphia USA on Tuesday night.
Keshi said at the post match that the team played unlike itself in the first half and only start to play to style 15 minutes to the end of the game. “It’s a game we should have won easily but here we are not playing to our style. We play possession football and press the opposition to give up but we didn’t do that till towards the end of the game but its part of the learning curve and we will get there before the World Cup starts.
On players output, Keshi said all the players picked were desperate to impress in the game against Greece but noted that when such happens, the manager has to understand the realities. Speaking specifically on Osaze Odemwingie, Keshi said the player wants to give what he thinks he has not given in the last two years and in the process made mistakes.
“Osaze is one of our versatile players who can play anywhere in the forward line and he tried to give his all against Greece, but it was simply not his day, even when I shifted him to the right wing he kept pushing but as a footballer myself I knew he has to rest and give his best at the World Cup.”
He also praised the output of Skipper Joseph Yobo, who played in the second half of the game describing him as sharp and ready to go. “Ofcourse that’s why he is the leader of the team.”
The Nigerian coach when asked about what to expect in the game against USA, declared that he expects a better game from his wards. “With Jurgen Klinsmann in charge we expect a little bit of German mentality but we have a Nigerian antidote and we hope to see a better game”.
The Super Eagles left for Jacksonville, Florida on Wednesday afternoon, with the Keshi promising that his wards will give their all in the game against the Yankees.
Osaze: I Want To Give My All In Brazil
Super Eagles striker, Peter Osaze Odemwingie says he has missed the team for the last two years and is desperate to make contribution to the team before he calls it quits with football. Describing the team as having raised its standards, which other countries especially in Africa will struggle to catch up with.
Speaking after the match against the Greek national side at the PPL Park In Philadelphia, USA, Odemwingie says without doubt the Keshi regime as coach has positively impacted on the team and he was desperate to be part of the success story.
“Luckily, I have been picked to go and do battle for the nation in Brazil and I can assure you that I will give my all to the team. The talent is there, the stars are here and we work as a family. Yes I have been away but now that I’m back I want to give my all and ensure that we do well in Brazil”, Eagles Media Officer Ben Alaiya quotes Osaze as saying.
The Stoke City striker took time off to thank fans in Nigeria and across the world who stood by him why he was away from national duties and promised that he will not fail them come Brazil 2014.
Nigerians In USA Honour Eagles With Trophy
…Yobo Salutes NFF, Fans
It was party time at the PPL stadium in Philadelphia, USA after the goalless draw against Greece in a ‘Road To Brazil’ friendly as Nigerians in the United States under the aegis ‘Ikemba Organisation USA’ rolled out the drums for the national team; Super Eagles.
Nigerians in their hundreds turned out to party with the national team and wishing the team the best of luck when they go to Brazil for the World Cup. The occasion was attended by the Deputy Consul General of the Nigerian Embassy in New York, UJ Inyang. Who praised the Eagles for swift qualification for the World Cup and says with the caliber of players he saw in the friendly against Greece, the team will excel in Brazil.
The leader of the group, Okechukwu Onyeizu, said they organisation was motivated to organize the event because of the heroics of the national team in recent times. He said he was sure that the national team will make a statement in Brazil during the World Cup and called for support from all Nigerians all over the world.
After receiving a trophy from the team, Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi called up skipper Joseph Yobo to address the gathering. Addressing the audience, Yobo, said he was delighted to be part of the current all-conquering Super Eagles, which he attributed to the support the team has received from the Alhaji Aminu Maigari led Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). “The assurance I want to give is that me and my teammates will not disappoint come Brazil 2014”, he said amidst thunderous ovation. The event was packaged by Mr Innocent Onwubiko for Ikemba USA.
Super Falcons will depart for Kaduna Wednesday morning to continue their preparation for the second leg tie of the Africa women championship (AWC) qualifier at the Ahmadu Bello stadium on June 7.
Nigeria who won the cup eight times has a 4-1 advantage from the first leg and will qualify automatically for AWC if they avoid heavy defeat against the She Amavubi of Rwanda. A draw will do for the Falcons to qualify.
Team administrator Ruth David who revealed the team’s itenary said the Falcons would train at the Ahmadu Bello stadium pitch before the game.
Team media officer Gracious Akujobi quotes coach Edwin Okon as sayinh that Falcons would train hard to get use to the grass pitch after training in astro turf for the past two months.
Meanwhile, coach Okon has said that his girls would play the She Amavubi as if their whole life depend on the game stressing “we wont be over confident when we play them.We would not be complacent” he said.
On her part,Turkey based striker Desire Oparanozie has promised that she and her team mates will continue the goal scoring from where they left off in Rwanda, adding that goals is the name of the game and they are ready to make Nigerians happy come Saturday.
“We may have won the first leg 4-1 but we are not done yet.We know goals make fans happy and we are ready by God’s grace to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians” she promised.
Golden Eaglets on Friday recorded a 3-1 win over their Egyptian counterparts to complete a double win in as many days at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna. The victory followed Wednesday’s 3-2 win over the visiting Junior Pharaohs.
Ebere Osinachi scored a first half brace for Nigeria while Victor Osimhen added the other goal while Egypt’s solitary goal was converted from a penalty by Hosam Adel But the game started cautiously with both teams sizing up one another and it was Nigeria that made early incursion into the visitors’ half.
However, in the 12th minute, Nigeria went into the lead after the visitor conceded a corner and the floater by Kolawole Gbadamosi slipped away to quick-witted Ebere Osinachi who evaded a marker before
slotting the ball into the net.
Osinachi could have scored the second goal in the 30th minute when he got a through pass following a one-touch combination with Kelechi Nwakali but his angular shot went wide off the right side of the post.
He equally wasted another opportunity in the 34th minute when he shot the over the bar even with the goalkeeper at his mercy.
Almost immediately, Sunday Alimi saw his lively shot ricocheted off the post after he capitalised on a blunder by Egypt’s Hatem Ahmed.
In the 43rd minute, Osinachi made up for previous misses when he guided Anas Mohammed incisive pass beyond goalkeeper Mahmod Gad as the first half gradually came to an end.
Expectedly on resumption of second half, the Eaglets pulled out Osinachi for Victor Osimhen; Samuel Chukwueze for Chinedu Madueke; Suleiman Abdullahi for Alimi Sunday as well as debuting goalkeeper
Ebuka Nwokocha for Amos Benjamin.
Despite ceaseless pressure, the Golden Eaglets failed to take advantage and against the run of play, the Egyptians forced their way at the other end. In the milieu, defender Lukman Halilu conceded a penalty after he mistakenly handled the ball in the box and resultant penalty kick was converted by Hosam Adel.
The goal spurred the Egyptian into action but on the whole there was little separating both sides as the Golden Eaglets failed to even convert numerous chances thereafter.
But in added time, second half substitute, Victor Osimhen drew the curtain on the match when he profited from a precise pass from Muhammed to make it a 3-1 win in favour of Eaglets.
The victory notwithstanding, Golden Eaglets’ coach Emmanuel Amuneke (MON) said he was not satisfied with the team’s overall performance, promising to ring further changes as the team continue to build up
towards the CAN 2015 qualifiers in July.
“Yes, we won but I’m not too impressed,” said Amuneke.” But the most important thing is that we have been able to see the players against a very good Egyptian team.
“We would continue to work hard and we still have more players that we would give opportunity to in the days ahead,”he noted.

The Nigeria Football Federation has perfected all arrangements that have to do with the Super Eagles’ run-in to the 20th FIFA World Cup finals, according to Nigeria football spokesman Ademola Olajire.
Olajire said in London on Wednesday that logistics for all friendly matches, hotel accommodation, international flights, local flights, movements to and from airports and hotels, feeding and conducive environments have all been dealt with to the letter.
“I can tell you that the NFF is on top of the situation and not taking anything for granted. The FIFA World Cup is the biggest project there is in football and as far as the present NFF is concerned, every detail is important.”
He disclosed that on Wednesday morning, two assistants of NFF’s FIFA Match Agent, Jairo Pachon departed London for Philadelphia, USA to prepare ground for the Super Eagles’ arrival on Thursday. It is a seven hours’ flight from London to Philadelphia.
After Wednesday night’s clash with Scotland’s Tartan Army at the Craven Cottage, the Eagles’ delegation, led by NFF President Aminu Maigari, will on Thursday morning fly to Philadephia aboard a British Airways plane, and then driven by bus to The Westin Philadelphia hotel.
After playing Greece inside Philadelphia Union Stadium on 3rd June, the Eagles will move to Jacksonville, Florida where they will stay at Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront on East Coastline Drive.
They will play Juergen Klinsmann’s Team USA in Jacksonville on 7th June.
On 10th June, the African champions will fly from Miami International Airport aboard an American Airline flight to Sao Paulo (nine hours) and arrive at the Guarulhos International Airport, Sao Paulo at 8.40pm local time. They will be met on arrival by FIFA’s transport and accommodation officials, officials of the Local Organising Committee and the NFF’s advance delegation.
The delegation will then be driven to the Team Base Camp, Vitoria Hotel Concept in Campinas (60 minutes’ drive from Guarulhos Airport). The hotel was inspected and approved by Coach Stephen Keshi a day after the World Cup Draw in Salvador on 6th December 2013.
Stephen Keshi’s wards will train at the Brinco do Ouro Stadium, which playing pitch recently underwent extensive upgrade at the prompting of the NFF, and the Mayor of Campinas, Mr. Jonas Donizette, has at various times assured of adequate security for Team Nigeria. Portugal is the only other team staying in Campinas.
World football –governing body, FIFA will take over the team from arrival in Sao Paulo, and make arrangements for chartered flights from Campinas to match venues in Curitiba, Cuiaba and Porto Alegre. FIFA will also arrange Venue –Specific Training Sites in those venues.
However, the NFF already knows that the Super Eagles will stay at Radisson Hotel Curitiba when they go to play Iran on 16th June, stay at the Hotel Hits Pantanal when they go to Cuiaba to play Bosnia-Herzegovina on 21st June and stay at Holiday Inn Porto Alegre when they visit that city to play Argentina on 25th June – exactly 20 years to the day both teams clashed at the 1994 World Cup in USA.
Maigari sets ‘friendly’ record!
Wednesday’s international friendly between the Super Eagles and Scotland’s Tartan Army was the 24th played by the Senior National Team of Nigeria during the present NFF administration headed by Alhaji Aminu Maigari.
Showered with plaudits worldwide for being, undisputedly, the most successful administration in the history of the game in Nigeria, Maigari’s team has also taken the cake for being the best in preparing all National Teams for international engagements.
Apart from the 26 friendly matches that the Super Eagles must have played under the administration heading into the 20th FIFA World Cup finals (as they also play Greece and USA in the United States of America early June), the other National Teams have also played several international friendlies.
It is the best record for any administration in the history of the supreme authority for the game in Nigeria.
The Eagles have played against Korea Republic (Seoul), Sierra Leone (Lagos), Kenya (Abuja), Argentina (Abuja and Dhaka), Ghana (London), Botswana (Benin City), Zambia (Kaduna), Angola (Abuja), Liberia (Monrovia), Egypt (Dubai), Peru (Lima), Niger Republic (Niamey), Venezuela (Miami, USA), Catalonia (Barcelona), Cape Verde (Faro, Portugal), Mexico (Houston, USA), South Africa (Durban), Burkina Faso (Kaduna), Jordan (Amman), Italy (London), Ethiopia (Abuja), Mexico (Atlanta, USA) and Scotland (London). They play Greece in Philadelphia on 3rd June and USA in Jacksonville, Florida on 7th June.
The Senior Women Team, Super Falcons have played the likes of Czech Republic, Slovakia, South Africa, Japan and Cameroon while the U-20 boys, Flying Eagles have clashed with Benin Republic, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco, and featured regularly in the Cape Town U-20 Tournament. They also played in the Toulon International Tournament in France for the first time ever, last year.
The U-17 Boys, Golden Eaglets, have played, among others, Rwanda, Botswana and Qatar and taken part in the WAFU B U-17 Tournament while the Beach Soccer Team has featured in the Samsung Intercontinental Tournament and regularly competed in the COPA Lagos Invitational Tournament.
Maigari explained: “Our philosophy is that those who fail to prepare actually prepare to fail. For a team to do well at major competitions, it has to prepare adequately. That is why we have always endeavoured to, within our limited resources, prepare all our National Teams adequately for international engagements.”
