Lagos FA Cup: Goodland Rangers Knock Defending Champions Out

A 14 second strike by Ibrahim Gbadamosi of Goodland Rangers FC was all it took to send the 2014/2015 champions, Christ Ambassadors FC out of this year’s edition of the Winners Golden Bet powered Lagos State FA Cup.

The much anticipated match played at the Agege Stadium, Agege saw the Ajuma Ottache tortured side, Goodland Rangers FC score with their first kick when Ibrahim Gbadamosi scored the only goal of the match after just 14 seconds to take his side to the Round of 16.

Past champions AS Racines Fc also crashed out of the Championship when they lost by Penalties to Gbagada FC, Gbagada FC had earlier equalized with the last kick of the match to take the game to a 2-2 draw after full time.

Ibrahim Gbadamosi who won the Most Valuable Player award of the match, stated that the match was not easy and that they had to dig deep for them to win the match, He however gave thanks to God for the award, adding that his job as a striker is to score goals and scoring the winning goal against the defending champions was a thing of joy to him.

In other matches played on Monday in the round of 32 at the ongoing WGB Sponsored Lagos State FA Cup, C.O.D United defeated FC Robo Warriors by 2 goals to nothing, Also Messiah football club beat Oceaniag football club by another 2 goals to nothing to move to the next round.

On Thursday, Future Stars football club will confront G Innovation football club AT 7:30 AM at Agege Stadium, Agege, while Anointed Stars football club will take on Bridge football club in the second match of the day.

At 2:00PM, It will be the turn of LSDPC football club vs First Bank football club for a place in the round of 16, while Teslim Thunder Balogun football club play ODIC football club in the last game of the day.

Dotun Coker, Chairman of Technical committee of Lagos State FA as expressed satisfaction with the standard of the championship so far, saying almost all the clubs participating showed some level of improvement, hence the reason for the close results. Adding that they also displayed a high level of discipline in the games.

In an effort to make this year’s edition of the Lagos Fa more interesting, Winners Golden Bet sponsors of the Lagos FA Cup have introduced glamorous and attractive innovations for this year’s FA Cup in Collaboration with the Lagos State FA.

According to the local organizing committee of the championship, starting from the round of 32, there will be Man of the Match awards in all the matches up to the finals, with the winner going home with the sum of 10,000:00 courtesy of the sponsor, Winners Golden Bet.

It was also noted that apart from Man of the Match award in every match up to the finals, there will also be awards for the Most Valuable Player, Highest Goal Scorer and Best Behaved Team with each of the awards coming with sum of 50,000:00.

The Media was also not left out of the goodies with award for the Best Print, Best Radio, Best TV Coverage and Best Photo journalist for the championship to be presented on the final day.

He however urged all the participating clubs to continue to maintain a high level of discipline as displayed in the rooky matches, adding that Lagos State FA has done well with their organizational ability.

Meanwhile all the winners in the Rooky matches have all won the sum of 15,000:00 each courtesy of Board of Lagos FA.

However, the round of 32 will begin on Sunday, with Goodland Rangers FC taking on Tranzeet FC in the first match of the day, It will be the turn of Eko Akete FC and Oceania FC in the second match, While Pro side, Ikorodu United will battle Freestan Sports for a place in the next round.

Nath Boys FC will slug it out with Ascenders FC in the last match of the day on Sunday with all the matches holding at the Agege Stadium, Agege.

2015 Lagos State FA Cup Registration Closes With 32 Clubs Vieing for the Trophy.

As the deadline for registration for this season’s Lagos State FA Cup came to a close yesterday, only 32 Men’s clubs and 3 Women’s clubs met the deadline.

According to the Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Lagos State FA, Dotun Coker.

Coker stated that although registration has closed, there is still room for the Clubs that did not meet the deadline for registration according to the Timeline released by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.

He revealed that the championship will kick-off on the 7th of next month across the state with the finals coming up on the 5th of April, 2015.

Coker also confirmed that according to the Timeline from the NFF, late registration for clubs will start on the 16th of this month through to the 18th.

However 23rd to 25th of February, 2015 as been scheduled for submission of completed forms and player’s licenses, with 28th of this month to 4th of March as the grace period for final submission of completed forms and players licenses.

He disclosed that the date and venue for the draws for the Championship that has Winners Golden Bets as sponsors will be released very soon.

AS Racine football club are the defending champions for the Men, while FC Robo are the defending champions for Women.

Lagos FA Shifts Attention To Women Football

Lagos State Football Association, LSFA in conjunction with the British Council has concluded plans to continue the development of women football in the State.

The Programme EkoFootball Premier Skills Nigeria, EPSN which also has the backing of English Premier league will see young girls from across the State gathering in 6 (six) centers for 9 (nine) Saturdays undergoing intensive training not only in football but also in other areas of human capacity development in relation with other football activities like coaching, refereeing and administration.

Seyi Akinwunmi, Chairman of Lagos State FA disclosed that the FA’s plan is to develop football holistically in the State using the Ekofootball brand.

Akinwunmi who also doubles as the 1st Vice President of Nigeria Football Federation said the vision of the Lagos FA is to develop and produce the next set of Super Falcons for the country.

“Our focus as a board is to develop football from the grassroots to the top, we have been able to do that with our monthly Ekofootball under 13 future stars which has already produced two National Under-15 players,now we are showing the world what we have been doing with the girls and I am sure very soon we will see some of them playing for the country”. He concluded.

The training will commence this week, Saturday, 1st of November, 2014 in six centres namely Sango Senior Secondary School, Sango, Egan Senior High School, Egan, Oriwu College Ikorodu.

Others are Eva Adelaja Girls, Somolu, Epe Grammar School, Epe and Iponri Estate Junior High School.

After the nine Saturdays training the State FA will then begin a District League that will see the six educational districts in the State forming a team to represent it in the league.
