Oliseh Invites Salami, Akas, 24 Others For CHAN Camp

Head Coach Sunday Oliseh has called 26 players, including forward Gbolahan Salami and defender Chima Akas, for the first phase of preparatory camp ahead of next month’s 4th African Nations Championship in Rwanda.

The Super Eagles B has already been drawn into Group C of the competition alongside Niger Republic, Tunisia and Guinea, with matches to be played at the Stade Regional Nyamirambo in Kigali.

Also called are regulars Kalu Orji, Austin Oboroakpo, Jamiu Alimi (defenders), midfielders Ifeanyi Mathew, Paul Onobi, Usman Mohammed and Bature Yaro, forwards Ezekiel Bassey, Tunde Adeniji, Chisom Chikatara and Prince Aggrey, and goalkeepers Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Olufemi Thomas.

Invited players have been directed to report at the Bolton White Apartments, Wuse Zone 7, Abuja on Monday, 14th December.

Nigeria won the bronze medal at the last African Nations Championship held in South Africa in early 2014. The 4th edition runs between 16th January and 7th February, 2016.

Nigerian President host CHAN Eagles

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan yesterday hosted the bronze winning Home Based Super Eagles in Abuja, the team coached by Stephen Okechukwu Keshi made it all the way to the Semi-final of the recently concluded Orange CAF CHAN 2014 in South Africa.

This is the first time the Nigerian Home based Eagles would make it to the CHAN tourney after two previous failed attempts. The team however didn’t Leave Abuja empty handed as the President announced cash rewards for the entire team including the back room staff. Chief coach Stephen Keshi was given – N1.5million Naira, his assistant coaches were given N1 million Naira each, the players also got a million Naira, while the back room staff got N500,000 thousand Naira each.

This writer believes that the Presidents’ gesture is greatly appreciated and hopes it will go a long way in motivating not only the CHAN Eagles but also other teams representing Nigeria in the other sports.

GLO NPL Media Officer’s Forum Elects New Officers

The Media Officer’s Forum (MOF) of the Glo Premier League in a special meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday 28th January 2014 discussed the way forward for the 2013 / 2014 Glo Premier League season and other salient issues affecting the Forum and it was resolved as follows.

The Forum elected seven members to man the affairs of the body for a period of two years.

China Acheru of Dolphins FC was elected as Chairman of the forum to be assisted by Kano Pillars’ Media-Officer Idris Malikawa who was elected Vice Chairman of the Forum.

Cajetan Nkwopara of Heartland FC is the Secretary of the body, while Musa Elayo of Nasarawa Utd was elected as the Assistant Secretary

Sunshine FC of Akure’s Media-Officer Adewumi Ayodele Johnson is now the Treasurer.

Uwem Ekoh of Akwa Utd was also elected as the PRO of the MOF and last but not the least Mark Agbo of Lobi Stars will serve as Welfare Officer.

The Forum commended the League Management Company (LMC) led by Hon Nduka Irabor for putting machineries in motion for the smooth take off and success of the league.

The Forum also appealed to Chairmen/Boards of various clubs to pay serious attention to their Media Officers by giving them good incentives and good working environment to enhance their performance. This we at Newfanzone believe will go a long way towards enhancing the coverage of the League.

The MOF also talked about Security issues and other logistic challenges its members face in the process carry out their duties and this challenges can be met

The forum also commended members of the Nigerian team currently flying the Nigerian flag in South Africa.
