Samsung sponsor Jordan Olympic Committee athletes for 17th Asian Games in Incheon

Samsung, the global technology giant and International Olympic Committee (IOC) TOP Partner today teamed up with the Jordan Olympic Committee (JOC) to sponsor athletes competing at the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, which will take place from 19 September to 4 October.

As part of the partnership, five athletes have been selected as the ‘faces’ of Team Jordan and Samsung Electronics Levant, working together as Team Samsung. Both Team Samsung and the rest of the Jordanian delegation are busy making final preparations for the Games. The JOC is excited to be sending its largest-ever delegation to an Asian Games, with 156 athletes, officials and coaches due to attend.

SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS

Mr. Bumsuk Hong, President of Samsung Electronics Levant, said:

“Sponsoring Team Samsung in the Asian games affirms Samsung’s commitment towards supporting youth and Jordanian talent, and highlighting Jordan’s participation in the Asian Games.

“At Samsung we believe in supporting Jordanian athletes to participate and compete in global sporting events, and to have pride in Jordanian achievements by encouraging and supporting top athletes to help them inspire others with their passion. Jordan Olympic Committee
Jordan Olympic Committee

Lana Al Jaghbeer, JOC Secretary General said:

“This partnership with Samsung Electronics Levant marks a new direction for the Jordan Olympic Committee following the launch of our new Living Sport initiative earlier this year. One of the key elements to Living Sport is making the JOC, and sport in general, more accessible and marketable. For a company the size and with the reputation of Samsung to recognise this is a massive boost to our continuing efforts to make sport and healthy living integral to the lives of all Jordanians.”

As Jordan’s talented young men and women stepped up their training for the 17th Asian Games, the JOC came to the rescue as six national team cyclists were sent to hospital after being hit by a car on Jordan’s Airport Road. Thankfully, despite some nasty injuries, the team have now resumed training, thanks to new equipment supplied by the JOC.

JOC athletes are set to compete in 12 different sports including football (men and women), basketball, taekwondo (men and women), karate (men and women), boxing, triathlon, cycling, judo, squash, wushu, wrestling and weightlifting. Approximately 20,000 participants, including 13,000 athletes and team officials from 45 NOCs, are due to take part in the 16 day competition.

The 17th Asian Games in Incheon will provide an exciting opportunity for Jordan Olympic Committee and Team Samsung’s most promising young athletes to compete on the international stage, and demonstrate the Living Sport vision: for sport and healthy living to play a role in the lives of all Jordanians.
