Sierra Leone And Guinea Men And Women Through To Zonal Phase Of CAVB Continental Cup

CAVB Continental Cup- Zone 2- Pool 3

Sierra Leone and Guinea Conakry men and women team qualified to the second round (Zonal Phase) of the CAVB Continental Cup after they finished in the first and seconds positions at the Zone 2, Pool 3 tournament held in Guinea Conakry early this month.

The tournament showed hosts Guinea Conakry, Sierra Leone and Guinea Bissau competing for two slots at the zonal phase after Mali withdrawal ahead of the competition.

In Men’s tournament Sierra Leone won both matches against Guinea Conakry and Guinea Bissau to lead the tournament with 16 points ahead of hosts Guinea Conakry who beat their neighbours Bissau to finish second and clinch the second ticket to the zonal phase.

The women’s tournament showed Guinea Conakry leading the tournament with two victories as they followed y Sierra Leone and Bissau came third.

The opening ceremony was attended by Ms Domani Doré, the Minister of Sports, Guinea Conakry VB Fed President Mory Keita, the vice President of the Guinean Olympic Committee Ms Germaine Mangué beside other guests of honour.

Control Committee President Ahmed Khanou was happy to supervise this successful tournament in attendance of the major sports characters in Guinea. He appreciated the efforts done by Guinea VB Federation to make this tournament successful.

New Outdoor VolleyBall Court Launched In Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone became the first African country to launch the outdoors court donated by African Volleyball Confederation “CAVB” as installation are completed on Wednesday.

The new court will be a very important tool for supporting the Development Programme of Sierra Leone Volleyball Federation as well as aiding the newly implemented “African Dream Project in the west African Country.

This new kind of courts are parts of the CAVB Development strategy to supply all African countries with outdoor courts to help the spread of the sport in areas without indoor halls.

Sierra Leone VB Federation Secretary General Ahmed Khanou celebrated the launching of the court as a small festival was held to involve the African dream kids in presence of some important media.

The West African country is now one of the best developing countries in Africa specially in Beach VB where they are ranked 9th among the 53 affiliated National Federations.

CAVB Development Commission Highlights The Great Era Of African Progress

African Volleyball Confederation “CAVB” President Dr Amr Elwani opened the Development Commission meeting in Cairo, Egypt on Friday with a welcome speech urging all the commission members to be up to the expectations and new challenges facing Africa.

Elwani said that Africa have a great leap forward due to the great work done in Development. “We need to have a good cooperation from the National Federations which will be the only way to progress,” He said. “We also have to present new ideas and creative opinions from the whole members,”

The commission president Nasiwa Sadik said in his speech that we CAVB have now to implement all the Projects we will have in this commission after most of the previous projects have been already launched successfully.

“Now we have also to monitor our previous projects and then evaluate the results to have the full success,” said Sadik

The meeting was attended by CAVB President Dr Amr Elwani, Development Commission President Nasiwa Sadik (UGA), Commission members Ahmed Khanou (SLN), Charles Uyisenga (RWA), Salaheddin Babiker (SUD), Fredreck Ndlovo (ZIM), Paul Atchoe (GHA), Sanga Kone (CIV), Baibamne Kianhykbo (CHD), the Development Centers Directors Mbaye Deme (SEN), Kamal Rakaya (TUN), Omar Elhaj (SUD) and CAVB Executive Director Howyda Mondy.
