FORMATION: 4-2-3-1

GOALKEEPER- Manuel Neuer- Undoubtedly the best goalkeeper of the tournament and no wonder he was awarded the best shot-stopper of the tournament. He kept clean sheets against teams like Portugal,USA,France and in the finals against the Albeceleste and with a Man of the match performance against Algeria in the knockout stages he certainly was the goalie of the tournament.
OTHER MENTIONS: Keylor Navas, Sergio Romero

RIGHT BACK: Philip Lahm- The Bayern Munich player defies logic as he seems to be getting better as the years pass by. He is not your tall aggressive right back but he offers you more with timely tackles and pin point crosses. His picture lifting the world cup trophy is a perfect cherry on his illustrious carerer.
OTHER MENTIONS: Pablo Zabaleta,Oscar Duarte

LEFT BACK: Delay Blind- A crucial member of that ever impressive Oranje squad Blind showed he has both the offensive skills and the defensive discipline needed in the competition. His goal against the host was a beauty to behold.
OTHER MENTIONS: Marcos Rojo,Benedikt Howedes

CENTRE BACK: Ron Vlaar- Who would ever think the Aston Villa centre half would be in the team of the tournament dogged defending,a “minister” of defence, timely interceptions are what defines Vlaar display in the tournament. No wonder the Oranje team did not lose a game in regulation time.
OTHER MENTIONS: Thiago silva,Jerome Boateng

CENTRE BACK: Mats Hummels- Mats just had 2 shots on target but scored with both of them and at crucial times too. Hummels is your stereotypical centre back-solid in defence and capable of bringing th ball out from the back.
OTHER MENTIONS: De Vrij,Ezequiel Garay

DEFENSIVE MIDFIELDER: Javier Mascherano-He was Argentina unsung hero in the midfield. He broke down opposition attack with ease and was not afraid to go into tackles. Mascherano showed that he was the linchpin that team brought the defence and attack together. Messi got all the plaudits…Mascherano got them to the final
OTHER MENTIONS: Wijnaldum,Bastian Schweinstiger

HOLDING MIDFIELDER: Toni Kroos-“If Higuain had scored that goal from his error” apart from that he hardly put a foot wrong .Man of the match display against Brazil scoring a Brace in 69seconds and also notching up 3 assists in the competition he was the most productive threat for his side in the midfield .No wonder the holder of the Champios league trophy wants him.
OTHER MENTIONS:Paul Pogba,Jermaine Jones

LEFT MIDFIELDER: Lionel Messi- FIFA Golden ball winner he notched up four Man of the Match awards and single handedly took the Albeceleste to the knock out stages with his four goals. Even if he did not win the World cup like Maradona did he showed some sublime Bursts of indidvidual Brillance, even though some don’t think he deserves the golden ball award.
OTHER MENTIONS:Neymar Jr,Mesut Oezil

RIGHT MIDFIELDER: Arjen Robben-He was perharps the most potent attacker in Brazil and some believed was deserved of the golden ball award for they knew what a threat he was. With his ability to get past defenders as if they didn’t exist and superhuman level of endurance not many would believe he is 30.
OTHER MENTIONS:Angel Di Maria, Andre Schurrle

ATTACKING MIDFIELDER: James Rodriguez-Loved by members of the Newfanzone after a fantastic performance at the mundial. He scored 6 goals and had two assists even the earth knew another global superstar was born. From being a relatively unknown player to being a household name James Rodriguez showed the world just why Monaco splashed the cash on him.
OTHER MENTIONS: Emboaba Oscar,Mathieu Valbuena.

STRIKER-THOMAS MUELLER: 10 world cup goals at just age 24 seems like its only a matter of time he surpasses Klose’record number of World cup goals. He is Versatile, always available for a pass and Germany’s outlet when they go on the attack. He might not be the most eye catching striker but he is always at the right place at the right time.
OTHER MENTIONS: Robin Van Persie, Miroslav Klose.

You can also send us your Team of the tournament to @Newfanzone or @demydemo where your tweets would be read on air. Newfanzone comes up every saturday On City 105.1fm 2pm-2:30pm.
