Volleyball Level II Coaches Course concludes In Tunisia

The Tunisian Volleyball Development Centre organised a Level II Coaches Course from June 17 to 26 under the guidance of French instructor Mr André Glaive.

Eighteen men coming from Algeria, Libya and Tunisia took part in the course, where the candidates achieved a good level in training teams of younger players. Participants took much interest in the topics of the course and actively participated in the discussions. The coaching techniques to develop the players were well-explained by the instructor.

The results of the course were accordingly satisfactory since all the candidates have passed the course. The closing ceremony was organised with the presence of the national federation president M. Mounir Ben Slimane, the Development Centre director M Kamel Rekaya, and the coach of the national team Fethi M Kaoua.

NFF: Emergency Congress valid

NFF

The Nigeria Football Federation on Sunday reiterated that the Emergency Congress of the Federation which took place in Abuja on Saturday fulfilled the statutory requirements for holding an Emergency Congress.

“We have come across a nebulous report circulating in the social media and such clime that only three State FA Chairmen attended the Congress. This is not only laughable but preposterous.

“Thirty –one of the 44 members of the NFF were physically present, and were all fully involved in the deliberations and the decisions,” Chief Effiong Johnson, the former Chairman of Chairmen, said in Abuja.

Johnson blasted the fictitious report that spectacularly claimed that those who were opposed to the Emergency Congress did not want their names in print.

“That means they do not exist. They should simply keep quiet and show respect to the esteemed Members of the NFF Congress.”

The Purported removal of the Alhaji Aminu Maigari led Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has been flayed by top football chiefs in the country with most of them, including state FA Chairmen saying it was done in bad taste and it will damage the gains made by Nigerian football in the last four years.

Among those against the move are former NFA Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima, Delta State FA Chairman and Executive Chairman of the State Sports Commission, Amaju Pinnick and 33 state FA Chairmen in the country who will rather not have their names in print. It will be recalled that only three State FA Chairmen attended the Emergency Congress held Tuesday in Abuja.

Galadima in his submission, said the same brazen manner with which he was removed from office as then NFA Chairman, was again being displayed only with FIFA standing for the truth at the moment.

“If the Sports Ministry and the National Sports Commission, say they were using the Jos Court judgement to displace the present Executive Committee, then they have flouted the court order, because the court also said there should be no congress. So where did they get the powers to appoint an administrator and start to sack all management staff members, its absurd, illegal and we pray that common sense will prevail”.

He continued: “As far as some of us are concerned, the country is retrogressing instead of moving forward internationally in football.

If it has to do with funds management then we can understand and there are better ways of going about it instead of putting Nigeria in bad light for the wrong reasons internationally.”

Galadima called on the Minister to if possible to retrace his steps and look for better counsel, instead of grandstanding on the removal of the executive committee of the NFF.

“This matter is not about any individual but about the nation and the bad report and the possible damage this development will do to our football”. We hear the Minister and another official are going to FIFA headquarters when the World Cup is going on, it will amount to nothing. Lets settle at home”.

In his own submission, Amaju, said he has been able to tell the Sports Minister, Tammy Danagogo, his own feelings regarding the present logjam. He said the country’s image and football must be prevented from politics.

“What we are seeing is attempt to rubbish a very good man in Aminu Maigari, yes he may have his limitations but in reality Nigeria has not had it this good for a long time with a football administrator as Maigari has demonstrated.

The Minister might have his points of argument but Nigeria should supercede all, otherwise by Tuesday we will be banned by FIFA and that will take us several years backwards because we cannot be against international politics of the game.

Amaju said he believes that if the Presidency actually approved the removal of the Executive Committee, it was ill-advised and there must be a way to correct the anomaly and save face from the looming FIFA ban.

“We should stop making ourselves a laughing stock before the international community, because to be honest football is one of the sectors that has been thriving in the country and we must make it better instead of fighting ourselves.

The Minister and the NFF must find a common ground to resolve this issue for the good of the country. We even hear they want to bring back some characters whose only source of livelihood is football, we must not go there because we know the antecedents of these men”.

Also, 33 State FA Chairmen said they are shocked at the turn of events but will play the waiting game to ensure that they don’t run foul of FIFA rules and also thread the path of honour.

CAN U-17 NIGER 2015: Golden Eaglets tipped for qualification…As Egypt, Nigeria battle again

Based on their current form and performances over three matches against Egypt, the Golden Eaglets have been tipped as one of the favourites to qualify for the 2015 African Under-17 Championship to be
hosted in Niger.

This much is the opinion of experienced Coach Mohammed Ali Gamiel, the Physical Education Doctorate Degree Holder after being pressed about the team under the aegis of Coach Emmanuel Amuneke following a pulsating goalless draw on Friday night.

Nigeria is drawn into the second round of the 2015 CAN Under-17 and would keep a date with Democratic Republic of Congo in Lubumbashi for a first leg fixture on July 20 but Gamiel said he has seen enough to give them a head start.

“Today’s (Friday) match gave me the opportunity to assess the Nigerian team much better because my boys are in a great physical condition and good form after we won two official games against Sudan(Egypt won on 7-3 aggregate),” reasoned Gamiel.

“I really like this Nigerian team and along with Egypt, I think they are the best now at the Under-17 level because I have watched about 10 teams already and I would definitely rate the Nigerian side very high.”

He would further commend the Golden Eaglets’ coaching crew for the spade of work already done over the last few months while counselling them not to rest on their oars.

“The Nigerian team has good skill, good physical condition and above all, good tactics and I would like to commend the coaches because it is not easy teaching players at this level,” he noted. “I’m very hopeful the Nigeria team and my team Insha Allah (by the grace of God) would qualify for the tournament in Niger.”

In a related development, both Nigeria and Egypt would face-off again 10:00pm on Sunday night at the Police Sports Federation Stadium in Cairo to complete their four-match series.

The Junior Pharaohs would be desirous to at least win match in front of their home fans after losing twice to the Golden Eaglets in Kaduna in May and followed by Friday’s goalless draw but the Golden Eaglets are cocksure of yet another victory.

“But for luck, we should have won Friday’s match because we created the best chances in the match,” noted Prince Udofia, Golden Eaglets’ co-ordinator. “I’m sure the boys would go all out for victory in
Sunday’s game.”

Sunday’s match would be Golden Eaglets’ Number 20 since Amuneke took over the reins of the Nigeria’s national Under-17 team and they are yet to lose a match in regulation time bar the 3-1 penalty shoot-out loss to Benin Republic after a energetic 1-1 draw at the WAFU B Tournament in April.
