106 Teams Compete At Volley All Festival In Uganda

A total of 106 teams involving boys and girls competed in the 2014 Volley All Festival at Trinity College Nabingo on Friday 25th July, 2014. The event that involved children of different age groups had 22 teams competing in the U-10, 33 in the U-12 and 51 in the U-15 categories.

“As a Federation, we are impressed by the turn up and the level of skills displayed today” Uganda Volleyball Federation’s Technical Director Mr. Tonny Lakony remarked. The teams were pooled in and played at least 3 matches.

This Festival is self-contained technically; we only provide guidance in a few areas and this can be played in any part of the country” noted Levian Ashaba the tournament Director and Head of Mass Volleyball Commission. “The Athletes besides playing to officiate their own games,” he added.

All athletes and teachers received goodies from the Events sponsors Movit Limited and Coca Cola. “As a part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, we always give back to the community who we believe in.” said Amos Mugarura Movit’s Public Relations Officer.

Movit previously supported the 2nd Edition of the Margret Cox Memorial tournament held at Gayaza High School. “We are therefore looking forward to strengthening this relationship with the Volleyball community” Amos added.

The event is expected to be bi annual and Trinity College Nabingo will be a Festival Center for the Central region as the Commission continues to identify more centers especially up-country.

FIVB VCP Course starts in Uganda

The FIVB VCP Uganda Volleyball Federation, Course for Coaches was opened on Monday morning with 28 coaches registering for the one week event. The event that is taking place at the Uganda Olympics Committee, offices in Lugogo is coordinated by the Federation’s Technical Director Mr Tonny Lakony.

FIVB Coaches Instructor, Mr. Alemayehu Shoatatek is the Director for the 10 days course. “I am happy to be back here again” Said Alemayehu Shoatatek. Alemayehu has been conducting courses in Uganda for the last 24 years. “Uganda is my second home” He added Participants in the course will tackle both technical and organisational approach to the game. They will be examined in three front; Theory, practical and Oral.

UVF President Sadik Nasiwu is impressed by the turn out. “Some of you have been coaching without the qualification but with this course, I expect that you are better coaches for your clubs”. Said Sadik Nasiwu. KAVC’s Shilla Omuriwe, KCCA’s Anthony Ashaba and Sport-S coach Mugisha Benon are among the 28 coaches attending. “I expect at the end of this that the game of Volleyball will grow technically” Nasiwu added.
