Despite Challenges, NFF Determined, Focused – Sanusi

NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi said on Monday that the Federation remains focused and determined to take Nigeria football to new heights despite a number of challenges, mostly financial.

The seasoned administrator celebrated 10 months in office as NFF General Secretary on Monday, and told thenff.com that, “though the road has been a little rough, our utmost determination and commitment to foisting a new, brilliant dawn on Nigeria football remains unshaken.”

In his 10 months in office, Sanusi has gladly received three major trophies, viz the African Youth Championship, FIFA U-17 World Cup and Africa U-23 Cup of Nations, as well as celebrated the U-23 team’s qualification for the Olympics and bronze medal at the All-Africa Games, the Super Eagles B’s qualification for the African Nations Championship, the U-20 girls’ qualification for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and the Super Eagles progress in the 2018 FIFA World Cup race.

“We have had so much to celebrate, thanks be to God Almighty. But we have also had a lot of challenges along the way.

“Most of the challenges have been financial. We have had relative peace to do our work, and everyone knows that peace facilitates progress.

“However, we must commend the Federal Government for its financial and moral support which has really helped us succeed in our programs. We appreciate that the Government has so many other key areas to expend resources on, such as infrastructure, roads, health, education, agriculture, safety and security, et cetera. So, several establishments have to find ways of improving their sources of funding.”

Sanusi explained that the need to increase revenue streams informed the NFF’s aggressive marketing approach and initiatives to attract corporate support.

“We cannot sit down and expect Government to do everything; that would be unwise. The NFF has gone into serious marketing in order to relief Government of a bit of the responsibilities.

“We are also proud of our efforts in helping to keep the young ones off the streets and away from social vices. Football provides an exciting platform and opportunities for the youth and this has blossomed under the Amaju Pinnick administration. The road may be rough, but we have robust determination and are well –prepared to confront and conquer all challenges.”

The high –powered Nigeria delegation arrived in Kigali on Sunday and had dinner with the players and officials of the Super Eagles at the Hills View Hotel, where Sports Minister Dalung delivered the message of President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) to the group.

“I want to assure you that Government and people of Nigeria are with you as you start this campaign for honours. President Buhari has mandated me to tell me that you should confront all challenges with courage and confidence because he is with you in spirit.

The Eagles perfected strategies for the three-week championship at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria, South Africa, where they spent two weeks, and will start as tournament favourites being the top –ranked team from the last competition present in Rwanda.

NFF blasts report of poor conditions in Eagles’ camp As Media Officer commend NFF for top-quality kits…,

NFF blasts report of poor conditions in Eagles’ camp…We commend NFF for top-quality kits, excellent camp conditions – Media Officer

The Nigeria Football Federation has condemned, in strong terms, a report in a national sports paper of Wednesday, 13th January 2016 which detailed imagined ‘poor conditions’ in the camp of the Super Eagles B in Pretoria, South Africa.

The said report had talked of ‘inferior’ NIKE kits being used by the team at the pre-CHAN camp in Pretoria and unsubstantiated ‘distractions here and there,’ all attributed to a nebulous ‘highly placed source’.

NFF’s Assistant Director (Communications), Ademola Olajire said the report was littered with so much falsehood that it was clear the reporter was out to cause disaffection and damage morale in the camp ahead of the 4th African Nations Championship.

“The Super Eagles B delegation is heading to Rwanda on Friday (15th January). This report has come out at this time to demoralize players and officials ahead of the Championship.

“It is a shame that while the NFF is doing everything to keep the team happy and focused, and every stakeholder in Nigeria is wishing the team well, a reporter would be so committed to bringing down morale in the camp.

“Strangely, the reporter and his mysterious source admitted that Amaju Pinnick paid for assistant coach Lusciuto’s medical bills, but said it was not NFF that paid!”

The Super Eagles’ Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, told thenff.com from Pretoria that the report is the handiwork of a detractor and that the reality on ground is far from what was painted by the reporter.

“We don’t know where the story of ‘poor conditions’ is coming from. All the officials in camp have been commending the NFF for arranging for the team to train at such a world –class facility as the High Performance Centre in Pretoria.

“The training kits are top-quality, so also the match jerseys which were brought in by the team administrator. They were kits supplied direct to the Federation by NIKE. The team trained in Abuja for two weeks before heading to Pretoria, and everyone saw the kits they used.

“It is uncharitable and the height of mischief for anyone to describe the kits we are using now as inferior. They are among the best anywhere in the world. The team has played two friendly matches, drawing one and winning the other. We are all in very high spirit and we are praying that the team gets it right in Rwanda in order to make the NFF and Nigeria proud.”

Eagles Confront Palancas Negras Ahead CHAN

The Super Eagles B will take on fellow Rwanda-bound Palancas Negras of Angola in an international friendly in Pretoria on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Super Eagles B lashed the University of Pretoria 3-0 in a test game at the school, with two goals from forward Tunde Adeniji and one from midfielder Ifeanyi Mathew.

Nigeria’s home –based senior boys, who arrived in Pretoria on Saturday and commenced training on Sunday, are using the encounter as a big test ahead of the 4th African Nations Championship starting in Rwanda on January 16.

Head Coach Sunday Oliseh arrived in Pretoria ahead of the group and said on Tuesday that he is looking ahead to the clash with the skillful Angolans.

Angola finished as runner-up at the 2nd African Nations Championship in Sudan five years ago, while Nigeria finished in third place at the 3rd edition in South Africa in 2014.

Wednesday’s clash comes five days before another top duel – a friendly with Cote d’Ivoire at the same Tuks University Stadium.

The Super Eagles B delegation will fly into Rwanda on January 15, three days before the team trade tackles with neighbours-to-the-north Niger Republic in their first match of the tournament, at the astro-turf Stade Regional Nyamirambo on the outskirts of Kigali.

Nigeria’s hopefuls, to be captained by left–back Chima Akas in the absence of forward Gbolahan Salami, will also play Tunisia and Guinea in Group C, with the match against the Guineans scheduled for the city of Rubavu.

Dikko delights in Eagles’ CHAN ticket

Leader of Nigeria delegation to Ouagadougou and NFF 2nd Vice President/LMC chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, has expressed joy and sense of satisfaction at the Super Eagles B’s qualification for the 4th African Nations Championship.

The LMC supremo had challenged the players in the dressing room an hour before kick–off, to play with determination and discipline to do the nation proud, and also to make a strong case for their ilk (players in the domestic League) with regards to greater consideration for places in the main Super Eagles squad.

“Your success here today will make your home –based professional colleagues happy, that you have represented them with courage. Also, you need to win for your Head Coach, Sunday Oliseh, who is recuperating in Belgium. Your qualification for Rwanda and the way you play will convince the coaches that home -boys deserve more places in the Super Eagles A team.

“I am the chairman of the League, and I am convinced one hundred percent that we have quality in the League, and that more home boys can break into the full Super Eagles squad. So, you need to show your stuff here this afternoon.”

At the end, Dikko (who made the charge in company with chairman of NFF Technical Committee, Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu, NFF Deputy General Secretary Emmanuel Ikpeme and club chairmen Akin Akinbobola, Davidson Owumi, Paul Chibuzor and Okey Kpalukwu) praised the boys for their strong mental attitude and fighting spirit.

Also, the Ambassador of Nigeria to Burkina Faso, His Excellency David Bala, who watched the match alongside his wife and a dozen staff of the Embassy, was ecstatic.

“Your victory means a lot. We will have the bragging right here for a long time to come. The people of Burkina Faso wanted to win this match so badly, and had even boasted that they would score so many goals in the first half.

“Our boys fought hard and well, and deserve praises. They are brave soldiers.”
