Stores FC Supporters Commend Adebajo Family and Media For FA Cup Return

The Stationery Stores FC Supporters’ Clubs Amalgamated—comprising several Chapters of the Club’s supporters—wish to commend the Adebajo family, owners of the team, for entering Stationery Stores FC (SSFC) for the 2016 FA Cup competition.

We are also not unmindful of the strong exhibition of professionalism by members of the sporting Press in Nigeria, whose very important contribution has continued to help improve the standard of our domestic league and has also helped consolidate efforts to return Stationery Stores FC to its rightful place in Nigerian soccer.

As the club continues its gradual ascent to its glorious position in the country’s football, we recall with nostalgia that SSFC has a chequered history of participation in the FA Cup Competition, which began in the country in 1942. The competition has been variously known as the “War Memorial Challenge Cup,” “Governor’s Cup,” “FA Cup,” and now, the “Federation Cup.” The rich history of Stationery Stores FC has seen it win the Lagos State version of the FA Cup 15 times—perhaps the highest number of times than any other club in the State. The darling team of Lagos—as Stationery Stores FC is also affectionately known—also won the national version of the competition in 1967, 1968, 1982 and 1990.

The return of Stores to the competition in 2016 is therefore in continuation of its renowned philosophy of providing entertaining and purposeful soccer to its teeming supporters in Lagos, Nigeria and Africa, and remaining competitive and focused. We believe that the young players who will be donning the colours of our Club in this year’s historic return will be desirous of chasing history and following in the fine traditions of their predecessors who lit the flame of Nigerian football and received a permanent, appreciative acclamation as the “Flaming Flamingoes.”

Finally, we commend all the 52 Chapters of SSFC Supporters’ Clubs in Nigeria and the 10 Chapters overseas for remaining patient and loyal to the team and its owners. This is the time to increase our support and prayers for the success and irreversible ascent of the Adebajo Babes.

Long live the legacy of Israel Adebajo. Long live Stationery Stores Football Club.

STATIONERY STORES LAUNCH NIGERIA’S FIRST SUPPORTERS’ CO-OPERATIVE

The management and supporters of Stationery Stores FC have finalized plans for the establishment of Nigeria’s first supporters’ co-operative.

The co-operative, which will be open to every Stores supporter, will be owned and managed on a ‘one-member one-vote’ basis and will represent the interests of supporters within the club, fundraising to develop new infrastructure and working towards acquiring a share of ownership of the club.

Football supporters globally have a voice within their clubs through formally organized vehicles and Stores are intent to bringing this level of organization to Nigerian football to empower their loyal fans and improve the fortunes of the club. As its first project, the co-operative will raise funds to develop training facilities and a Stores academy.

STATIONERY STORES LAUNCH NIGERIA’S FIRST SUPPORTERS’ CO-OPERATIVE

The Flaming Flamingos have a proud tradition as pioneers in the Nigerian game and this project will establish a revolutionary new vehicle that will become a model for the football landscape in Nigeria. The project supports the LMC’s wider efforts to introduce community ownership into Nigerian football and will provide a blueprint for other clubs to follow.

Stores Chairman Adetilewa Adebajo has committed to providing a seat on the club’s board to the co-operative and to supporting the long-term aims of the supporters to take a share of ownership of the club.

The project is being coordinated by Sandlanders Football – currently working on similar projects in 10 African countries – with support from Nigeria’s Island Sports under a Memorandum of Understanding entered into with the club. Sandlanders works in partnership with Supporters Direct, an organization funded by the English Premier League and UEFA to represent the interests of supporters in Europe whose work has resulted in over $50m of new investment into football.

STATIONERY STORES LAUNCH NIGERIA’S FIRST SUPPORTERS’ CO-OPERATIVE

Supporters interested in joining the co-operative are invited to register their interest on the official Stores supporters Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/flamingtrust Corporate partners will also be sought to work with the supporters to restore one of Nigeria’s finest clubs to the top of the game.

Stationery Stores Chairman Adetilewa Adebajo, said “The Sandlanders affiliation provides us with the right platform and optimal structure to organize our fan base in line with global best practice. The affiliation will also enhance our sponsorship, branding and funding initiatives; enabling us to pioneer a viable and sustainable business model for running football in Nigeria.”

STATIONERY STORES LAUNCH NIGERIA’S FIRST SUPPORTERS’ CO-OPERATIVE

Sandlanders Football Director, Paul Jones, said: “We are incredibly excited to be working with a club with the history and stature of Stationery Stores. Internationally, supporters have a significant role to play in the development of their clubs and there is huge potential for supporters in Lagos to do the same. In Munich, over 200,000 registered members have made Bayern the club it is today. In Barcelona, 180,000 members have done the same and closer to home, Africa’s most successful football clubs are supporter-owned. We want this success to be replicated in Nigeria and Stores is the perfect club to lead the charge. A football club is nothing without its fans and we urge supporters to become a part of this initiative by joining the co-operative.”

Onikan Stadium was agog on Saturday as Team Agodo won the 2ND edition of the 1960BET Gold Cup 2014. The match climaxed this year’s edition of the 1960BET Gold Cup that saw Team Agodo defeat its counterpart from the Lagos Island West by a lone goal to go home with the giant trophy and 2 million Naira prize money while the team from Island went home with N1.5million naira. The 1960BET Gold Cup, a CSR initiative of Winners Bookmaker Nigeria Limited, operators of 1960BET, the No. 1 bookie in the land is intended to promote positive engagement of the youths and helping attract gainful employment opportunities, taking the youths off the street whilst also helping good footballers showcase their skills even at grassroots level. The Competition itself was patterned as a Mock World Cup where 32 teams from all over Lagos and Ogun State (Abeokuta to be precise) participated.

20140512-234732.jpg

The match pulled a capacity crowd and had started on a high tempo as both teams tried to make use of every opportunity to get the curtain raiser.

Team Lagos Island West, the maiden and defending champions tried every trick in their books to draw the first blood but the Sunday Adeyemi-led Agodo team stood its ground to maintain its unbeaten run to end the first half goalless.

At the resumption of play for the second half, Team Agodo introduced Michael Etim in jersey No. 14 who became the tormentor-in-chief, he gave the Island team defence marshaled by Uche Emmanuel in jersey No. 15 a tough time. However, in the 78th min the defence caved in and Ugochukwu in jersey No 9 scored the goal with a rocket shot, his left foot following a rebound from Captain Sunday Adeyemi’s shot on target that had been blocked by goalkeeper Abiodun George in goal for Team Island West.

In the 86th min Team Island West had a chance to draw level but Korede Shodipo in goal for Team Agodo parried the ball for a corner kick with the resultant kick being fruitless. After 90mins Team Agodo became the champions of the tournament in what was a pulsating and exciting match that was tension-soaked all the way.

Earlier in the day, Team Oshodi led by its Captain Kayode Samson had defeated Team Ojo by a similar score line of 1-0. The goal came in the 71st min after Kayode Samson dribbled his way into the goal area to fire a low shot to the far corner of the net for the only goal of the match.

Following the victory recorded by the Oshodi team, they went home with bronze medal and were also 1 million richer while team Ojo that placed fourth went home with 500,000.00 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira).

As is the custom of the organizers, there was a Novelty match between Ex-Stationery Stores players and the 1960bet XI. The match ended one goal apiece with both goals coming from penalty spot. The Captain of the Ex-Stores team Taiwo Oloyede scored first for them, whilst the Managing Director /C.E.O of 1960bet Mr. Dotun Ajegbile scored the equalizer after the Captain of the 1960BET X1 team, Kamardeen Oyebo was brought down in the box and the referee duly awarded the host team the penalty which was converted by the MD/CEO 1960BET to the delight of all and sundry.

20140512-234512.jpg

The high point of the final was the official signing ceremony of Headline Sponsorship deal between 1960BET and Stationery Stores FC of Lagos. The contract is a 5year contract with financial details left undisclosed, though the deal is mouth-watering and is believed as one of the largest club sponsorship deals ever signed in Nigeria. The signing ceremony which was conducted by High Chief Festus Adegboye Onigbinde, (FIFA Instructor and former Head Coach of the Green Eagles of Nigeria) had Mr. Tilewa Adebajo the Chairman of Stationery Stores FC and Mr. Dotun Ajegbile of 1960bet represent Stores FC and 1960bet respectively.

Stationery Stores FC Rolls Unicem Rovers into Lagoon

20140407-141238.jpg

20140407-140838.jpg

Ladies and Gentlemen, we’re back to winning ways as Rovers are rolled into the Lagoon!

On an evening Stationery Stores FC needed to do a few things that had little or no room for errors, the team performed to the delight of a respectable crowd of supporters at The Flaming Arena. What were those things? Well, it needed to subject its new team to real match conditions and come out of it unscathed.

It needed to introduce its new coach to the Lagos fans and it needed to re-assert its authority on the Onikan Waterfront in order to send a warning to other teams who will visit the Arena henceforth.

Indeed Stores FC succeeded in doing all of those within a space of 92 minutes…ninety minutes of playing time plus two extra minutes added by the match officials. It “rolled” UNICEM Rovers FC into the Lagoon opposite the stadium—just as its vociferous fans asked it to do—sinking the visitors from Calabar by two goals to nothing.

It did so parading several new players who re-enacted the tiki-taka brand of soccer that the Adebajo Babes are famed for and to the delight of the impressively filled stadium.

20140407-140814.jpg

20140407-141107.jpg

Then it fronted Fatai Amoo, its new coach, to the media and the fans, in what ostensibly is a warning to the other NNL teams that the Flaming Flamingoes are bouncing back under the tutelage of one of the most tactically gifted gaffers on the Nigerian soccer scene. Stationery Stores Football Club is back to winning ways and in the words of Fatai Amoo at the post match conference, “it is going to fight for every single point remaining in the season.”
