SHOOTING STARS DOWN GABROS IN IBADAN, CONSOLIDATE TOP POSITION…,AS TORNADOES STRIKE MIGHTY JETS

NNL

Expectedly, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan has continued its steady push to return to the elite division next season with an emphatic defeat of close rivals, Gabros International in the Nigeria National League (NNL) Week 28 match. They beat Gabros 2-0 to lead Division B.

The encounter produced a lot of anxious moments for both teams but it was the home team that found the net of the visitors twice just as the local derby between Stationery Stores and First Bank went the way of the Bankers who ran away with 1-0 victory.

Also, Wikki Tourists of Bauchi maintained their grip on the top ladder with a lone goal win over DSS of Kaduna but frontrunners, Mighty Jets of Jos suffered a one nil defeat in the hands of Niger Tornadoes who are equally pushing to get back to the Premier League cadre.

Elsewhere, most of the home teams won big against their visitors as Plateau United hammered hapless Sokoto United 3-0. Mountain of Fire and Miracle of Lagos thrashed Ekiti United 3-0 while Jigawa Golden Stars walloped Nigerian Prisons FC 3-1.

NNL

Week 25 games were played in both Division A and Division B of The Nigerian National League over the weekend with only the Dss Fc vs FRSC FC game to come up Today Monday the 25th of August 2014.

Of the seven games played in Division A, and even the eight games in Division B, Plateau Utd’s away victory vs TEAP FC remains the only victory on the road this week. that game ended 1-2 in favour of Plateau Utd.

The Kwara Utd game versus Wikki Tourist In Ilorin Recorded the highest number of gaols in a single game this week in the NNL, with Kwara Scoring 4, while Wikki could only manage 1, to make it a total of 5 goals.

This has now brought Kwara Utd within one point of Wikki who seat on top of the Log with 44 points, while Kwara Utd follow closely on second with 43 points.

The Battle for Promotion in Division B as taken another twist as Shooting Stars lost to First Bank Fc of Lagos 1-0 at the Agege Stadium, while Rivals Gabros Fc Defeated Prime FC 1-0, Gabros and 3SC are now joint first with 41 points each, but Shooting top the league with a Superior goals difference.

The relegation battle is equally interesting if not more intriguing as just like the top of the table nothing much separates six teams at the bottom of both logs.

While its not looking good for Prisons FC, others relegation battlers like FRSC, TEAP and DSS are still in with a shout in Division A.

The Story is not different in Division B as Stationery Stores are now at the bottom of the log with 30 points, same with Unicem Rovers while COD Utd, Prime, Remo and Go Round are caught up in a massive battle for Survival.

NNL WEEK 23: WIKKI TOURISTS, KWARA UTD, 3SC, GABROS, EYE PREMIER LEAGUE…

Expectedly, all the home teams won their matches as the Nigerian National League (NNL) season is gradually coming to a crucial stage where any margin of error will do damage to the teams’ ambitions to either gain promotion to the elite cadre or drop to the amateur rank.

With this scenario in mind, the table toppers in the two divisions of the NNL ensured that they maintain the status quo as Wikki Tourists of Bauchi despite dropping three points after a 0-1 loss to TEAP Football Club in Abuja still lead Division A with 41 points just a point above Kwara United which beat Jigawa Golden Stars 1-0 in Ilorin at the weekend.

shooting Stars of Ibadan

In the same vein, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) walloped rivals Abia Comets 2-0 in Ibadan to perch pretty at the top of Division B with 40 points while second placed Gabros International garnered three points from the home match against Go-Round FC.

However, it will take a miracle for the Nigerian Prisons FC with 16 points out of the possible 69 points after 23 rounds of matches to escape relegation even as Unicem Rovers, Remo Stars and Prime FC of Oshogbo are in danger of being relegated to the lower division also at the end of the season.

Abia Comets fc

Others on the queue as relegation candidates are Stationery Stores FC of Lagos; Go-Round of Omoku; TEAP and FRSC of Abuja. They need to dig deep to prevent the inevitable from happening.

NNL TEAMS’ RACE FOR PREMIERSHIP TICKET HOTS UP… KATKEM PROMISES HITCH-FREE CONCLUSION OF THE LEAGUE

With eight matches to the end of the Nigerian National League (NNL) current season, clubs have intensified their efforts to secure their places in the four available spots to play the next season in the Nigerian Premier League cadre.

Also, the NNL Secretary, Monsieur Lawrence Katkem has assured that the remaining matches will be strictly monitored to ensure a level playing field for all the participating teams even as he commended all the stakeholders for the great successes so far recorded in the competition.

Among the front runners after last weekend’s Round 22 matches are Group A leaders- Wikki Tourists Football Club of Bauchi; second placed Kwara United FC, Mighty Jets of Jos, Kogi United and Plateau United respectively which have mathematical chances of finishing as top two teams in the group.

shooting Stars of Ibadan
3SC

In Group B, Shooting Stars of Ibadan are leading the pack but they are closely followed by Abia Comets, Gabros International, Gateway FC and Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) in that order.

While Wikki Tourists are the runaway Leaders in Group A with 41 points after 22 matches, Kwara United has 37 points just as Jets and Tornadoes have recorded 35 points each to put pressure on the leaders.

Gabros Int'l FC
Gabros Int’l FC

However, the battle is hotter in Group B where two point are separating top team, Shooting Stars with 37 points from Abia Comets and Gabros with 35 points each while Gateway and ABS need only one win to topple the leaders.

Meanwhile, the race against time is getting tougher for some clubs still languishing in the bottom rung of the league ladder.

Among the candidates for relegation are two Abuja-based clubs- Nigerian Prisons and TEAP FC with paltry 16 and 25 points each in Group A while Unicem, Remo Stars and Prime DC of Oshogbo are most likely to kiss the canvas at the end of the season due to their poor performances in the league.

NATIONAL LEAGUE RESUMES SATURDAY, AS TRANSFER WINDOW CLOSES MIDNIGHT FRIDAY

3SC
After one week break, the Nigeria National League (NNL) will resume this weekend with all the participating teams fighting to either consolidate their places at the top or swim out of the relegation waters as the competition hits the home stretch.

League action was halted after the first stanza of the competition came to an end a fortnight ago even as the period was observed as a second transfer window to allow clubs add more players to their squad for the task ahead. It ran for 12 days and will close midnight of Friday, May 23, 2014.

But the NNL has ordered all the weeks 16, 17 and 18 matches will hold on May 24, 31and June 7 before the league will go on recess again during the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 which kicks off on June 12.

In Division A, promotion chasing Kwara United Football Club will ensure it defeats visiting Supreme Court Abuja to move closer to runaway Wikki Tourists and Adamawa United at the top of the log while relegation threatened FRSC will host leaders, Wikki.

Also in Division B, troubled Unicem Rovers of Calabar will tackle frontrunners, Shooting Stars in a tricky match which both teams need to win to further their course of gaining promotion to the premier league next season.

MFM HOLDS FIRST BACK, SHOOTING STARS BACK ON TOP…WIKKI OVERTAKES MIGHTY JETS IN DIVISION A

Mountain of Fire and Miracle (MFM) Football Club of Lagos did not need any miracle to force city rivals, First Bank to 1-1 draw in an epic encounter played at the magnificent turf of Agege Stadium near Ikeja at the weekend.

It was a match which the host would have wrapped up in the first have but poor marksmanship ensured that both teams shared the spoils even as MFM came from behind to pick a point.

First Bank had scored an early goal no thanks to a defensive mix-up following what MFM defenders taught was an offside play but the referee and his First Assistant referee adjudged it a fair-play and that allowed the First Bank attacker to slot in from the near post.

The unexpected goal forced MFM to swoop on their opponents and forcing them to retreat to defend their post, a strategy which nearly cost them dearly when a desperate First Bank goalkeeper fouled MFM attacker in the box but the resultant penalty was wasted.

The introduction of MFM skipper, Yemi Oladejo early in the second half turned things around for the home team and it was not long before the playmaker initiated a move which led to the equalizer by MFM.

Elsewhere, Shooting Stars of Ibadan which defeated Ekiti United 2-0 to garner 19 points to overtook Gabros International with 17 points even as Abia Comets has also notched up 19 points to compete with the top leaders.

Meanwhile, Wikki Tourists have returned to the top Division A after a 2-0 victory over Kogi United in Bauchi just as Adamawa and Plateau United have joined Mighty Jets of Jos on 19 points to trail Wikki with only one point more that the three clubs.

Wikki Tourists Football Club was in ruthless form yesterday as the Bauchi-based team walloped the visiting TEAP FC four nil to still lead the Nigeria National League (NNL) Division A just as Gabros International which lost woefully to Go=Round FC in Omoku on Friday is Division B frontrunner.

Gabros was beaten three nil in a better forgotten weekend which also saw Prime FC fumble to a 2-2 home draw with Mountain of Fire and Miracle (MFM) of Lagos.

However, it was sweet victories for Plateau United which beat Supreme Court 2-0 and Adamawa United which defeated Spotlight 2-1 even as Niger Tornadoes and Nigerian Prisons recorded wins against Ranchers Bees and Kogi United respectively.
