“We played very well against Kogi Confluence in the Federation Cup in Benin and we are happy with that.

“We have our eyes on the podium, two or three matches and we’re right there. We are determined not to leave any stone unturned to ensure we achieve our goal.

“Our thinking is very positive and we are already focused on the next match in Osogbo on Saturday,” the former Sunshine Stars assistant coach said.

As Coach Reads Riot Act To Players

Kayode Olijoungbe Head Coach, Sunshine Queens FC, has warned his players against any unruly behaviour capable of disrupting the performance of the team both on and off the field.

The coach said yesterday in Akure after a training session at the Ijapo field that the management has done everything possible to make the team progress in the league.

“I want to warn you girls not to go against the rules of the team.

“No player should leave the camp without permission especially when preparing for matches. It’s unfair for us to be going around when we are supposed to be focusing and thinking about our games.

The Akure based women’s club is determined to win points from the week 16 encounter against Osun Babes on Saturday in Osogbo.

We will improve Sunshine Queens’s – coach Boboye

Sunshine Queens boss Kennedy Boboye has vowed they will improve and come back even better in the second round of the Nigeria Women Premier League after losing 2-0 to Pelican Stars in the last first round game.

The Calabar girls scored in each half of the match to claim the maximum points.

Boboye insists he plans to build a formidable team that can withstand any team in the country.

“We have seen our lapses in the first round and now we have the chance to fortify the squad to mount a title challenge this season.

“The girls fought against Pelican but lost their scoring chances. The Calabar girls got their two goals through our mistakes which we have learned from.

“The game in Calabar was a good test for my team, the girls played well and unfortunately we couldn’t score. But we have shown great hope for the future.

“We only need 5 or 6 players to add to what we already have, and this is what we will do in the mid-season break and of course to get to the top three remains our aim”, the coach said

The Mimiko girls are currently 8th on the log with 15 points from 10 matches.

God, hardwork gave us victory – Sunshine Queens

“I want to appreciate the effort of my players, they displayed class. The players were so determined and focus from the beginning to the end of the game.

“We have been so good at home but the Ibom win is our best so far this season and I hope and pray we take the form away.

“It was obvious to everybody at the stadium that we scored four good goals. I’m delighted, this is the type of goals I need from my players especially in away matches.

Determined Angels battle past Bayelsa to remain on top.

Rivers Angels fought hard to get a 1-0 home win to remain on top of the Nigeria Women Premier League(NWPL) table against Bayelsa Queens on a wet pitch at the Liberation stadium ,Port Harcourt.

The home team found it difficult to create clear cut chances more or less converting the few chances created in the game.

Asisat Oshoala was the worst culprit as she failed to make use of any of the few chances created and in other cases, she was perpetually caught offside.

The deadlock was broken in the 80th minute when the Ghana born striker Elizabeth Addo who came on as a substitute towards the half time break ,scored a superb goal from 25 yards to give Rivers Angels the much desired win.

The goal scored by Elizabeth Addo was her third of the season.

Rivers Angels remain unbeaten and stay firm on top of the table with 18 points from 8 games.

After the game, assistant coach of Rivers Angels White Ogbonda explained the reasons behind his substitutions.

“The difficulty came as a result of the players that came from the national camp. They were affected by fatigue due to the training they were made to undergo, said Ogbonda”.

“The midfielders were unable to give good passes to the attackers. When I realised ,I made the double changes and at the end of the day,we were able to get an opportunity to score a goal,he concluded”.

Former technical adviser of Bayelsa United ,Chief Ekete was happy with the result.

“In a game, a team can play well and loose,a team can play well and win,a team can play badly and loose and a team can play badly and win. We played well but lost the game,he said”.

“We came with the intention to pick three points but unfortunately we lost but as far as am concerned we will win the FA cup and the league trophy,Ekete said”.

Rivers Angels will next play against another south south rival ,Pelican Stars at the Unical Sports Complex ,Calabar.
