Volleyball Cooperation Programme Refereeing Course Helps 30 Referees In Burundi

Bujumbura, Burundi, April 15, 2015- A Refereeing VCP course was organised successfully in Bujumbura, Burundi March 30 to April 3, 2015 in presence of 30 participants including 2 females.

The course was instructed by Jouad Berrada from Morocco who conducted 4 theoretical and 4 practical sessions. He was satisfied with the level of performance and also the enthusiasm of all the participants

“I’m happy to conduct this course specially with the motivations and discipline of the of the participants,” Berrada said. “I hope to see those future referees using the knowledge they gained from the course in their future life. I want to thank Burundi Volleyball Federation led by President Louis Rwakiranya for their efforts to organise this course successfully.”

Twenty six participants passed the course and 10 of them at the A level.

Burundi President maintains volleyball support with a new Academy

Burundi President of the Republic Pierre Nkurunziza continued his support to volleyball establishing a new Academy for the sport in the country to develop the sport at all levels.

President Nkurunziza promised Burundi Volleyball Federation President Louis Rwakiranya with more support for the sport in the coming years upon his meeting in the Presidential Palace after the sport emerged with the promising results, specially in continental Beach volleyball competition with the frequent qualifications to age group World Championships.

Rwakiranya spoke to the president about the development of the sport throughout the country through the ambitious Programme of the National Federation and aided by both FIVB and CAVB.

The discussed the support of the local authorities in terms of the volleyball infrastructure including building new courts and equipments including nets, balls and posts for both volleyball and beach volleyball.

The President of the Republic received before the Burundian duo who won the Men’s U21 CAVB Beach Cup last year in Togo where he congratulated them and supported them to continue their way to honour their country in future.

Volleyball ! Burundi PCV Refereeing Course attracts 30 participants

Burundi hosted a PCV Refereeing Course from March 3-7 in the capital city of Bujumbura.

Thirty people (26 men and four women) took part in the course, which was directed by Joauad Berrada.

All but one of the participants – an engineer – were students studying to become physical education teachers. One of the participants was a national team player.

Course Director Berrada covered the rules of the game, using diagrams and videos in four theoretical sessions. There were also four practical sessions with the students officiating matches as first referees, second referees, line judges and scorers.

The opening and closing ceremony of the course was attended by Burundi Volleyball Federation President Louis Rwakiranya and national team coach Charles Niyongabo.
