Sparkling Nwobodo Rewarded With Second Start For Flying Eagles

After a sparkling performance against Dolphins, Enugu Rangers midfielder Obinna Nwobodo has been rewarded with a second straight start for the Flying Eagles in Sunday’s final game in the Super 4.

Nwobodo has been on the fringes of the main team but shone in the Flying Eagles 4-1 win over Dolphins on Friday by delivering three assists to keep his place in the starting XI.

He also provided the assist for Musa Yahaya’s late goal against Enyimba on the opening day of the competition.

He starts ahead of Ifeanyi Matthew and Abdullahi Alfa.

Exciting winger Bernard Bulbwa was also on target against Dolphins and will thus also start against the country’s Olympic team.

The Flying Eagles have already won this six-team tournament with an unassailable 12 points from four matches and so today’s final clash against the U23s is a mere formality.

Flying Eagles Defender Omego Out Of Danger, Undergoes Scan

Flying Eagles defender Prince Izu Omego is out of danger after a head injury in Monday’s Super 4 match against Pillars and will undergo a scan later on Tuesday.

“Izu is much better now. He will have a scan to further ascertain the extent of the injury,” said Flying Eagles team doctor, Ozi Salami.

The central defender was rushed to hospital late in the Pillars game after a flying boot crashed against his head, but he has since rejoined the rest of the Flying Eagles squad at the Serob Hotel in Wuye, Abuja.

The Flying Eagles are top of the expanded Super 4 with six points from two matches, same as Nigeria U23 team, but enjoy a better goals difference.

They take on Warri Wolves in their next game at the round-robin tournament on Wednesday.

Kick-off time is 1pm at the Abuja National Stadium.

Glo NPFL Super 4: Eguma Blames Late Preparation, Fatigue For Loss

Stanley Eguma says fatigue and late start to the season were responsible for their 2-0 loss to Kano Pillars on Saturday.

Samuel Tswaya scored in the 6th minute and Christian Obiozor in the 9th minute.

“I knew we would not be at our best at this tournament,” Dolphins coach, Eguma said.

“Fatigue from the journey was one factor, since we arrived just last night. We also fought hard but we missed chances.

“We had little preparations because the boys arrived late to camp but we will use the Super 4 to improve on our fitness,” Eguma said.

Okey Emordi, coach of Pillars insists the team still has some more work to do to be fully ready for their Champions League contest in February.

“It’s not because won… thank God for that. I was unimpressed with the positional game of the players and their recovery after losing the ball. I expected more from my players.

“This competition is a prelude to our continental competition. We are lucky to have won the match anyway. IF it was Dolphins that got those early goals, then we would have been the losers.”

Dolphins continue in the Super 4 on Monday against the U23 team at 5pm.
