AYAYA JOINS ABIA WARRIORS FC

The first player to be bought at one million naira in the Nigerian League, Emeka Nwanna popularly called “Ayaya” has joined Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia on loan until the end of the current season.

The lethal striker, who made the mega move from Rangers international of Enugu to Enyimba of Aba in 2001, was until his loan move to Umuahia in mid season, on his second missionary journey to Enyimba.

Ayaya told Abia Warriors’ website that he decided to pitch his tent with the Umuahia based outfit to contribute his quota towards the realization of the club’s aspirations.

The former Calabar Rovers, Heartland of Owerri and Kwara Utd hitman, said he simply loves Abia Warriors not only as Enyimba’s sister club but also because of the professional way the club is run adding that his ambition is to help the club pick a continental ticket at the end of the season.

“I love Umuahia because I started my career here with then NEPA Football Club of Umuahia when I was still in the secondary School and I had hoped to return here one day and when the opportunity came, I never hesitated to seize it with both hands”, Nwanna who also played for Tunisian and Qatari Clubs said.

On the secret of his longevity in football, the Anambra state-born striker said he does not indulge in negative influences but takes lots of fruits and vegetables particularly after every training session or after a match

Federation Cup 2014: Enyimba’s Second Half Display Ensures Victory Over Dolphins Of Port Harcourt

Enyimba of Aba are the champions of Nigeria Federations cup 2014 after defeating Dolphins of Port Harcourt 2-1 in an exciting game on Sunday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

Dolphins started the game in a lively mood and if not for Enyimba’s goal keeper Femi Thomas reflex save in the second minute from a Chidiebere Okoli shot,the Aba Millionaires would have been a goal down in the early minutes of the game.

Minutes later, Dolphins star man Emem Edouk had a right-footed shot saved by Femi Thomas.

Enyimba failed to pose any attacking threat through-out the first half and had only one shot on goal which was off target compared to Dolphins’seven shot on goal with three of it been on-target.

The half time period was used to honour the Legends of the game who were recognised for their contribution to the Federations Cup in the past, Some were recognised posthumously while some Living Legend were represented by relatives and some even attended with their wives and children.

The second half resumed and Enyimba’s coach Kadiri Ikhana made two changes which sparked their revival. He brought on Rasheed Olabiyi and Nzube Anaezemba for Razak Aliyu and Emeka Nwanna respectively.

In the 52nd minute, Mfon Udoh dazzled past two Dolphins defender before unleashing a fierce left-foot shot past Rotimi Sunday of Dolphins to send the fans from Aba into celebrating mood.

In the 71st minute, a defensive mix-up in the Dolphins defence lead to Enyimba second goal. Mfon Udoh nicked the ball off Dolphins’ defender Victor Ezurike’s feet before laying a pass to Chinoso Okonkwo who tap it from close range to score Enyimba’s second goal.

The Most Valuable player of the competition, Emem Edouk salvaged pride for the Port Harcourt club in the 80th minute when he beat the offside trap to tap in the ball past Femi Thomas to give Dolphins a consolation goal.

Enyimba could have scored a third goal when Sokari and Udoh combined well to set up play for Okonkwo. But Okonkwo shot straight at Sunday Rotimi who punched the ball away.

Enyimba have successfully defended the Federation cup and have now won the competition four times just like Dolphins of Portharcourt, Stationery Stores Fc of Lagos and BCC Lions, Only Enugu Rangers have won 5 times.
