Dikko delights in Eagles’ CHAN ticket

Leader of Nigeria delegation to Ouagadougou and NFF 2nd Vice President/LMC chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, has expressed joy and sense of satisfaction at the Super Eagles B’s qualification for the 4th African Nations Championship.

The LMC supremo had challenged the players in the dressing room an hour before kick–off, to play with determination and discipline to do the nation proud, and also to make a strong case for their ilk (players in the domestic League) with regards to greater consideration for places in the main Super Eagles squad.

“Your success here today will make your home –based professional colleagues happy, that you have represented them with courage. Also, you need to win for your Head Coach, Sunday Oliseh, who is recuperating in Belgium. Your qualification for Rwanda and the way you play will convince the coaches that home -boys deserve more places in the Super Eagles A team.

“I am the chairman of the League, and I am convinced one hundred percent that we have quality in the League, and that more home boys can break into the full Super Eagles squad. So, you need to show your stuff here this afternoon.”

At the end, Dikko (who made the charge in company with chairman of NFF Technical Committee, Chief Felix Anyansi-Agwu, NFF Deputy General Secretary Emmanuel Ikpeme and club chairmen Akin Akinbobola, Davidson Owumi, Paul Chibuzor and Okey Kpalukwu) praised the boys for their strong mental attitude and fighting spirit.

Also, the Ambassador of Nigeria to Burkina Faso, His Excellency David Bala, who watched the match alongside his wife and a dozen staff of the Embassy, was ecstatic.

“Your victory means a lot. We will have the bragging right here for a long time to come. The people of Burkina Faso wanted to win this match so badly, and had even boasted that they would score so many goals in the first half.

“Our boys fought hard and well, and deserve praises. They are brave soldiers.”

According to Owumi, the team is ready to face anybody on the continent and hopefully, they will overcome.

On his part, Coach Aigbogun said they prepared for any of the teams and the most important thing is for the boys to play well.

He said he will have to find out now how they play and that the first leg away will afford them an opportunity to prepare well and get a good result.

The first leg comes up in Congo the weekend of 15, 16 and 17th of this month while the second leg comes up in Warri City Stadium on the 7th of june, 2015.

Uduaghan Bails Warri Wolves Out Again

The Managing Director of Warri Wolves, Davidson Owumi has praised the sports loving Governor of Delta State for coming to the teams rescue by bailing them out after providing funds for the team to travel to Congo.

Apart from making available fund for the trip to Congo, the Governor equally released money to offset part of the salary being owned the players and that really gladdened the heart of the players who have vowed to play their hearts out in Congo on Friday as they confront Entancheite in the second leg which ended 2-1 in their favour two weeks ago in Warri.

According to Owumi, the Governor deserves kudos for coming to bail the team out at this time otherwise, the story would have been different.

“We are very grateful to the Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan for bailing us out by given us fund for the trip and he also made available money to pay part of the salarys. This has gone a long way to motivate the boys and one can see the way they are behaving now. I pray that we qualify so we can dedicate the victory to the Governor once again.” said Owumi.

Meanwhile, the team which left Nigeria on Wednesday afternoon via Asky Airline through Lome arrived Kinshasha around 8pm and have since settled down.

OWUMI SPEAKS ON WOLVES

The Managing Director of Warri Wolves, Davidson Owumi who arrived with the team from Ethiopia on Tuesday afternoon after qualifying for the next stage of the CAF Confederation Cup at the expense of Dedebit FC has said that he believes the Warri based team will go far in the competition based on what he saw in their last match.

Owumi who celebrated his birthday last weekend however revealed that for the team to achieve this, the boys must be well motivated and therefore urged the Government to provide what it takes to ginger the boys.

According to him, with the next match comes up on the 18th, April against MK Entancheite from DR Congo at the Warri City Stadium, the boys will have to move straight into a close camping because the higher you go in this competition, the tougher it becomes.

Owumi known as Okada in his hey days further said for this to be achieved, it depends on the funds available and so all hands must be on deck to see that the club achieve its aims.

“i sincerely believe these boys can go far from what I saw in Ethiopia but they must be well motivated to achieve the desired goals. We need funds now to move straight into a close camping because the next match is around the corner, It is on the 18th of this month and we are playing the first leg so we need to do well. We are the only hope of the Nation now with all other clubs eliminated and we cannot afford to let the Nation down. You know that the higher you go in this competition, the tougher it becomes and we just have to work hard. We need a lot of things to succeed”.

Owumi equally appealed to the fans to come out each time the club plays in Warri as this will go a long way in motivating the players.

“At this time, we need the fans now than before and they must come out in their thousands to support the team. They should be our 12th player and with them, we can achieve what we set to do by going far in this competition” said Owumi.

Warri Wolves To Retain 23 Players

Warri Wolves Football Club has sent 23 names to CAF for registration towards the forthcoming CAF Confederation Cup assignment while 12 others have been asked to look elsewhere to ply their trade as the Club prepare for the coming season.

Arising from a meeting which was chaired by the Managing Director, Davidson Owumi on Monday, Management also concluded that there would be no screening rather, the Club will upgrade two players from the feeder team who are adjudged to be good enough to play in the Premiership, recruit three young players from Delta State, and sign five players which have been invited and discussion almost concluded.

The Club also agreed not to release the names of those who have been asked to go and also those who are coming in until a later date but they should be informed that there services are no longer required.

Warri Wolves FC

” It was a crucial meeting where we took some drastic decisions. We are going to retain 23 players and their names have been sent to CAF for registration while we have asked 12 to look elsewhere to ply their trade. We also agreed that there would be no screening but we shall promote two players from the feeder team, look for three players around Delta State because the talents are there for us to harness. We have invited five players to beef up some areas and discussion is on with them at present.

All the names of those who are going and those whom we are discussing with would be released at a later date but I can tell you that one is coming from Crown FC, One from FC Taraba, Two from Sunshine Stars and one from Akwa United.

Management also agreed to resume in early January and to move straight into a close camping. We took all these decisions in the best interest of the Club and in view of the task ahead as we want to avoid the mistakes of the past. The most important thing is that we have a team on ground to prosecute any of the assignments.”

Warri Wolves To Boycott Lafia Match If…

Arising from a meeting where issues bothering the league especially the last matches was reviewed, Management of Warri Wolves has declared emphatically that unless Nasarawa United honour their match with Giwa Football Club, the Warri based team will not honour their last match with Nasarawa United in Lafia.

Speaking after the meeting, ex-international, Davidson Owumi who is the Chief Executive Officer of Warri Wolves said they have had enough of the rubbish going on in the league especially the last four matches and will no longer fold their hands and allow that to continue.

According to him, any Club who want to be a champion should work for it and not scheme to get free points and as a result of that, Nasarawa should go and slug it out with Giwa FC rather than scheming to get free points.

‘If you look at the last few weeks, you will be wondering whether this is the way they run football in other countries. The whole thing looks disgusting and come to think of it, Nasarawa United said they will not honour their match with Giwa FC.

We have resolved not to go to Lafia for our last match if they fail to play against Giwa FC. We have had enough of this nonsense and we can no longer keep quiet. Any Club that wishes to be true Champion should work for it and not scheme to get free points.” said Owumi who was known as Okada in his playing days.

The former Super Eagles striker who was once in charge of the League advised that referees should be up and doing in this crucial stages of the league and urged journalists to shine their eyes to report accurately so as to better the league.

“I want to also appeal to the referees to be up and doing in this crucial time and ensure that they do their best. I also want to beg our media men to travel to all venues to cover matches and not limit it to one area.

They should go to the South, West and North to see what is going on and report same.”

WARRI WOLVES IN BIZERTE

Warri Wolves Football Club arrived Bizerte on Wednesday evening to a very harsh weather as the team is kept in Corniche Palace Hotel, situated by the sea which has compounded the weather problem facing the players.

Apart from the harsh weather, the team could not train on Thursday morning because of a heavy down pour but the Coaches have decided to reschedule the training to 2.00 clock in the evening but the good news is that the Management led by Davidson Owumi is tackling what they called” psychological war” headlong by advising the players they have no choice but to deliver.

Owumi who spoke with the players early Thursday morning told the players they just have to deliver, weather or no weather and that management will do everything to motivate them towards conquering the Tunisian side who held them to a draw in Warri last week.
Owumi also told the players that Captain Azubuike who could not make the trip due to his marriage has decided to join alongside Josiah Maduabuchi who was left behind due to paper problem in Lagos.

According to Owumi, both players will join the team on Friday morning with the sole aim of qualifying for the next round.

” I want to thank all of you for your understanding and you all to know that this is another psychological war which must be won as you can see that we have been kept by the sea to make the weather worse for us. You can also see that the quality of the food wehqve been given is nothing to write home about but we must win this match for Nigerians. We will do our best to encourage you and you have no choice than to deliver” said Owumi who is not new to matters like this.

Meanwhile, the match will come up on Sunday by 1.30pm (Nigeria time) with match officials coming from Sudan while the match Commissioner is from neighboring State, Morocco.

It would be recalled that the referees for the first leg in Warri came from Morocco, Tunisia neighbour which made it difficult for the Warri players to understand the conversation between the Tunisian players and the centre referee each time there was any complaint.

Ace Journalist China Acheru Institutes Cash Award for GLO NPL 2013/2014 Season’s Highest Goal Scorer

Ahead of the kick-off the brand new GLO NPL 2013/2014 season, Renowned Sports Journalist and Media Officer of Dolphins FC of Portharcourt has offered the sum of $1, 000 (One Thousand Dollars) to any player in the NPL who can get 30 goals by week 38.

Acheru has taken it upon himself to motivate players in the GLO NPL to raise their game in the area of goal scoring, it is hoped that this Award will achieve its desired aim and we also hope that this initiative would encourage more corporate bodies and Individuals to pitch in their own quota towards the development of the Nigerian game.

Below is the full text of China Acheru’s press release as it concerns this wonderful Initiative:

20140306-230211.jpg

Having followed the Nigerian League since 1981 and watched it since 1984, I have followed the trend of goal scorers and how their return has been poor.

I watched Davidson Owumi at Sharks in 1985 win the first ever Bournvita Award for top scorer in the League. He scored a paltry nine goals.

I watched Ishaya Jatau at Heartland break and set a Nigerian League goal scoring record with 17 goals for Heartland (then Iwuanyanwu Nationale) in 1990 and I watched in dismay how that record remained untouched for twenty years when Ahmed Musa scored 18 to finally erase that record.

After Musa was Jude Aneke who got twenty goals and that has been the ultimate highest in the Nigerian League.

For this season that starts on March 7, 2014, I want to challenge the strikers in the league and offer $1, 000 (One thousand dollars) to any player in the league who can get thirty goals by week 38?

Is that too much? Maybe it is, but the one thousand dollars motivation should get them firing on all cylinders.

If nobody gets thirty goals, I will give five hundred dollars to the first striker who can get twenty five goals by week thirty eight.

If nobody can achieve these, then I keep my hard earned money to myself.

I hope this challenge can go its own way to motivate our strikers to throw themselves in and get goals for themselves.

I wish all Nigerian League strikers the best of luck as this challenge begins
