Seychelles and Madagascar Dominate Zone 7 Volleyball club championship

Gendarmerie men’s team from Madagascar and Anse Royale from Seychelles emerged as Zone 7 Club Championship held in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

Gendarmerie beat Beau Vallon of Seychelles in the final of Men’s competition, while Anse Royale clinched the women’s competition after topping Stef Auto of Madagascar.

Ian Furneau from Beau Vallon was chosed as the men’s competition best player, while Bonne Jerina from Anse Royale was the women’s MVP.

Semifinal Lineup Confirmed At Zone 7 Club Championship

2015 Zone 7 Club Championship- Day 5

The qualifiers to the semifinal of Men’s and Women’s Zone 7 Club Championship confirmed at the end of the first round of the competition held Championship in Antananarivo, Madagascar on Thursday.

In the men’s category Gendarmerie of Madagascar and Trou Aux Biches of Mauritius finished Pool A in the first and second positions, while pool B featured Beau Vallon of Seychelles coming on the top position followed by Akany Sambatra of Madagascar,

The semifinal will see Gendarmerie meet their compatriots Akany Sambatra, while Beau Vallon face Trou Aux Biches.

In the Women’s side, Stef Auto of Madagascar led Pool A followed by Azur of Mauritius, while pool B showed Anse Royal leading followed by Akon’ny Mandroseza of Madagascar in the second position.

CAVB, Thrilling Zone 7 Volleyball club championship as semifinal line up framed

Gendarmerie Nationale of Madagascar and Beau Vallon of Seychelles led both Men pools at the 22nd Zone 7 Club Championship in Antananarivo, Madagascar on Monday.

Both teams secured 2 victories in both men pools. Gendarmerie Nationale won their matches against Racing Club Comoros 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 25-9) and Trou Sharks 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-10).

Beau Vallon won their matches against Akany Sambatra 3-1(25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22) and Camp Ithier 3-2 (25-17, 22-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-12). Both winners secured semifinal tickets.

In the women’s competition Stef Auto of Mauritius and Anse Royal led the women pools after the competition third day. Stef beat Azur 3-1 (25-22, 32-30, 2-25, 25-18). Royale beat Akon Mandroseza 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-18) and Quatre Bornes 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-16).

The competition features 13 teams from Comoros, Seychelles, Mauritius and Madagascar including 6 men and 7 women teams.

Esperance book Club World Volleyball Championship’s ticket with 4th historic African title

2014 Men’s African Club championship- Final

Esperance Club (Tunisia) claimed the 2014 Men’s African Club Championship title following their victory over Ahly (Egypt) 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-14) in the competition final held at Olympic Hall in Sousse, Tunisia on Saturday to book FIVB Club World Championship ticket in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in May 5 to 11, 2014.

Defending champions Sfax (TUN) defeated their compatriots Etoile du Sahel 3-1 (20-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-21) to clinch the bronze medal.

This will be the second time for a team from Tunisia to take part in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s Club World Championship since the return back of its activity in 2009 after Sfax played last year in Brazil.

Etoile du Sahel recorded their 4th title after 1994, 1998 and 2000, while Ahly stayed as all time record holders with 10 crowns under their name in 1980, 1983, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2011.

Final
Esperance (TUN) beat Ahly (EGY) 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-14)

Esperance started the match as the better side as they used the sharp hits of Elyes Karamosli from position 4 and Hichem ElKaabi from position 2. Ahly improved relatively before through their blockers to decrease the point deficit to 16-10 at the second TTO before Esperance maintained their dominance to win the set 25-19.

Ahly started the second set in a better performance with their big gun Ahmed Kotb sending his strong hits from position 2 as Ahly led 4-2 before Esperance controlled the match again with the skillful combinations of their setter Mahdi Ben Cheick. They continued their attacking action to win the set 25-20.

Esperance motivations increased, while Ahly dropped acutely in the third set as the Tunisian controlled the net action regularly to win the set widely 25-14 and the match in straight sets.

Bronze Medal match
Sfax (TUN) beat Etoile du Sahel (TUN)

Defending champions Sfax (TUN) took over Etoile du Sahel 3-1 (20-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-21) to clinch the bronze medal.

Etoile played their best in the first set to win 25-20 with their proper reception and good development of the attacks. Afterwards Sfax controlled the match and succeeded to win three successive set in their way to get the bronze medal.

5th place match
Setif (Algeria) beat Bourj Bouaririj (Algeria) 3-1(25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 25-21)

Setif (Algeria) beat their compatriots Bourj Bouaririj 3-1(25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 25-21) in the fifth place match. Setif finished 5th, while losers ended their campaign in the 6th place.

7th place match
Ahly Benighazi (Libya) beat Ahly Tripoli (Libya)

Ahly Benighazi (Libya) beat their arch rivals Ahly Tripoli 3-1 (27-25, 21-25, 25-13, 25-19) in a thilling encounter that showed a lot skills from both teams. Benighazi finished the competition at the 7th place, while Tripoli dropped to 8th.

2014 Men’s African Club championship- Drawing of lots

The drawing of lots for the 2014 Men’s African Club Championship was held in Sousse, Tunisia on Wednesday where the 21 participating teams were divided into 4 preliminary pools with Pool A, B and D having 5 teams and Pool C with 6 teams.

Organizers and 2 time champions, Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia were drawn in Pool A along with Nahda (Sudan), Ittihad Taangier (Morocco), Borj Bou Arririj (Algeria), Bafia (Cameroon).

Defending champions Sfax of Tunisia who have 6 titles under their name will battle it out with Autoridade (Mozambique), Stif (Algeria), Ettihad Misurata (Libya), Espoir (Congo RD).

Pool C includes 2013 vice champions Esperance of Tunisia who won the title 3 times beside GSU (Kenya), Nemo Stars (Uganda), Mughrer Cement (Ethiopia), Port (Cameroon), and Ahly Beni Ghazi (Libya).

Ahly Tripoli (Libya) who finished third in 2013 will line up against the record holders Ahly of Egypt (6 titles), FAP (Cameroon), Prisons (Kenya) and Beau Vallon (Seychelles) in Pool D.

Teams of each pool will play in a round robin fromat where the top 2 teams in each quaify for the quarterfinals to play in a knock out format to determine the qualifiers till the final.

Teams ranked third and fourth in each pool will paly for the 9 to 16 brackets in the same knockout system.

The teams ranked 5th in each preliminary pool will fight for the 17 to 20 brackets, while the team ranked 6th in pool C will automatically finish as 21st position.

The annual CAVB competition acts as a qualifier for the FIVB Club World Championship to be held in Brazil May 6 to 11, 2014.
