APB Light Welterweights Harutyunyan And Chadi Both Win To Set Up Incredible Cycle I Round 2 Clash…

Results: APB Cycle I Round 1 (64 kg & 81 kg)

Manerba del Garda, Italy, hosted the AIBA Pro Boxing Light Welter and Light Heavyweight Cycle I Round 1 on 27 June according with the following match results.

LIGHT WELTER 64 KG – SATURDAY, 27 JUNE (20:00 GMT+2)
Location: Manerba del Garda – Venue: Palazzetto dello Sport

Two outstanding Light Welterweight (64 kg) matches in AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) Cycle I Round 1 delighted the watching crowd on Saturday night at Palazzetto dello Sport, Manerba del Garda Italy.

In the main event of the evening, number one ranked Artem Harutyunyan (GER) was in amazing form against Evaldas Petrauskas (LIT), and earned a near shutout victory over his decorated opponent in the process.

Harutyunyan used his jab effectively in the opening stages of the bout to create a vital distance between himself and his opponent, which allowed him to land often with accurate punches.

Petrauskas tried to get his own shots off, but was negated constantly by the stoic defence of the German.

The first few rounds of the fight followed a similar pattern, as the reach advantage of Harutyunyan enabled him to stay out of range and attack when he felt it was necessary.

Control is a key aspect Harutyunyan’s boxing style, and he used that technique time and time again in this contest.

Petrauskas constantly worked hard and occasionally managed to get through with some rapid combinations, but Harutyunyan’s grip of the fight was too great to break consistently.

After all eight rounds had been completed, Harutyunyan had won every round according to two scorecards, while the third judge awarded the German the victory by seven rounds to one.

Harutyunyan will now fight Abdelkader Chadi (ALG) in Cycle I Round 2 after the African star convincingly outpointed Carlos Aquino (ARG).

Chadi’s work-rate was exemplary throughout the eight round distance, and his stamina allowed him to evade the power punches of Aquino while peppering his South American opponent with constant shots.

Match Resuls:

Artem HARUTYUNYAN (GER) W.P. (80:72/80:72/79:73) vs Evaldas PETRAUSKAS (LTU)
Carlos AQUINO (ARG) vs Abdelkader CHADI (ALG) W.P. (74:78/74:78/74:78)

Nikita Ivanov secures vital Light Heavyweight victory over Abdelhafid Benchabla

The final two Light Heavyweight (81 kg) matches of AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) Cycle I Round 1 took place on Saturday night at Palazzetto dello Sport, Manerba del Garda, Italy, and Russian fans of APB will be delighted after fifth ranked 2013 European Champion Nikita Ivanov (RUS) defeated 28-year-old Abdelhafid Benchabla (ALG) by split decision.

Both boxers carry power, and there was heavy shots galore from the opening seconds of the bout, as each man looked to gain supremacy in the early stages.

Benchabla won the first round with accurate combination punching, before Ivanov made his way back into the bout by using flurries of his own.

The Russian star proceeded to dominate the next three rounds of the intense contest, and sent his Algerian opponent down to the canvas in round four after a brutal right hand.

Signifying his undoubted toughness, Benchabla did not wilt despite the immense pressure he was facing, and he changed his tactics to some success.

Gone was his in-fighting of the first half of the event, and he began to use his jab and reach to deflect the power punches he was constantly threatened with.

Despite the late rally, Ivanov kept busy which ensured he was not overwhelmed by the desperate onslaught of Benchabla.

At the close of the fight, it was the Russian whose work the judges narrowly preferred as he won the bout 78:74, while Benchabla was favoured 77-75 according to the third judge.

Ivanov will now meet Serge Michel (GER) in Cycle I Round 2 after the German star defeated Oybek Mamazulunov (UZB) in Italy.

Michel won the first three rounds of their contest, before Mamazulunov was forced to pull out due to a hand injury.

Match Resuls:

Nikita IVANOV (RUS) W.P. (78:74/75:77/78:74) vs Abdelhafid BENCHABLA (ALG)

2013 European Championships bronze medalist Harutyunyan has proven to be an excellent addition to APB, with his entertaining style earning him a legion of new fans.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed victories over both Abdelkader Chadi (ALG) and Boris Georgiev (BUL), while his lone defeats have come against the phenomenal Zakaryan.

His APB career highlight thus far was undoubtedly his memorable stoppage over Boris Georgiev during the Ranking Phase, which gives him the power advantage over his German opponent.

Harutyunyan has experience of competing over the eight round distance however, and enjoys tremendous stamina which will become especially beneficial as the fight progresses.

Both boxers have plenty of energy and skill, which means their styles should gel very well in Italy.

The winner of the contest will next meet either second ranked Carlos Aquino (ARG) or third ranked Abdelkader Chadi (ALG) in Cycle I Round 2.

Aquino is on a three fight APB winning streak, while Chadi has won three of his first four matches in this excellent competition.

APB Cycle I Round 1: Elias Emigdio headlines a duo of Flyweight rematches in Mexico

AIBA Pro Boxing APB

Lausanne, 9 June 2015 – Mexico City, Mexico, will host the AIBA Pro Boxing Fly and Light Welterweight Cycle I Round 1 on 10 June according to the match schedule below.

FLY 52 KG – WEDNESDAY, 10 JUNE (20:50 GMT-5)
Location: Mexico City – Venue: Plaza Condensa

AIBA Pro Boxing (APB) makes its debut in Mexico City, Mexico on Wednesday evening with two Cycle I Round 1 flyweight (52 kg) matches.

The main event will showcase home star Elias Emigdio (MEX), who competes against Fernando Martinez (ARG) for the second time in this competition.

Their first meeting took place in the very first week of APB action, and it was the Mexican fighter who was victorious after achieving a wide points victory.

Emigdio last fought in the APB Flyweight World Title Match against Misha Aloian, but lost the opportunity to become the World Champion after an impressive performance from his Russian opponent.

The former World Series of Boxing (WSB) star will take confidence from that bout however, as he dominated the latter stages and looked very comfortable competing over eight rounds.

Martinez impressed in the first three minutes of his earlier bout with Emigdio, but faded as the rounds progressed.

As this rematch will be taking place over two further rounds, the Argentine has been working on his stamina to ensure he will be able to cope with the added pace.

Mexico is legendary for its high altitude which can sap the energy of even the hardest trained boxer, so Emigdio could have an edge as he has competed there many times in his career.

His opponent is a pressure fighter who makes life very difficult for his ring rivals, while Emigdio is a far more economical boxer who relies on timing and accuracy.

The winner of Emigdio vs Martinez will meet either Jasurbek Latipov (UZB) or Ilyas Suleimenov (KAZ) in APB Cycle 1 Round 2.

Latipov and Suleimenov will also be rematching after Suleimenov comfortably defeated the two-time AIBA World Championships medalist in the Ranking Phase.

A former Olympian, Suleimenov has already earned two stoppage victories in this format of boxing, while Latipov is on a three fight winning streak.

Match schedule:

20:50: Iliyas SULEIMENOV (KAZ) vs Jabursek LATIPOV (UZB)
21:30: Elias EMIGDIO (MEX) vs Fernando MARTINEZ (ARG)
