Accolades As Eko U15 Secondary school Tennis Championship Ends

This first edition of the Eko U15 Secondary Schools Tennis Championship ended Saturday with accolades for the Organizers and sponsors. The Special guest of Honor Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi poured encomiums on Mr Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State Akinwunmi Ambode on Sports during the finals of the Eko U15 Secondary school Tennis Championship at the National Stadium Surulere Lagos on Saturday the 27th of February 2016.

Speaking with journalist at the event the DG Lagos State Sports commission Mr Ayo Agbesanwa called on other states in the country to emulate Lagos state especially in the area youth empowerment. Stating that sports should be used as a veritable tool for keeping the youths of the country positively engaged.

Austin Stephen made history as he emerged as the inaugural winner of the Eko U15 Secondary school Tennis Championship in two straight sets. He displayed an high level on intelligence that had the capacity crowd cheering every move.

Stephen and defeated finalist Ayoola Micheal Gave a good account of themselves and they have both been drafted into the Lagos State Junior Tennis Team.

The final game was preceded by two exhibition matches between the Under 15 girls who will be part of the second edition, And the Adults were not left behind as the Chairman of the Lagos State Sport Writers Association (SWAN) Fred Edoreh also played an exhibition match with a Member of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.

The chief Organizer of the Tennis Championship Mr Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye thanked the sponsors Winners Golden Bet for supporting the event while also calling on other Nigerian companies to come and join the Lagos state government, Adeboye revealed that the players were kitted by the sponsors and several players were provided training kits to help them improve the quality of their game.

Adeboye promised to make the event an annual event, while revealing that his office would be organizing similar “Catch them young events” in several other other sports this year.

Lagos Organizes First Eko U15 Secondary School Tennis Championship

The Lagos State government through the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye today unveiled plans by the state government to discover more talent amongst the youth of the state.

Speaking at the Opening ceremony of the Inaugural Eko Under 15 Secondary School Tennis Championship The SSA Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye Said: “We intend to organize several competitions across ten different sports designed towards discovering new talented sports men and women for the State in particular and the country in general”.

“Our plan is to create an avenue for all the young sports people in Lagos to display what there capable of sport wise, today we start with tennis and by the end of the year we would have touched on at least ten sports” We Thank Winners Golden Bet for their Support which as gone a long way towards actualising this event and we would like to seize this opportunity to call on corporate Nigeria and well meaning individuals to come and partner with us as we continue to use sports as a tool for youth development, job creation and social re-engineering Adeboye stated.

Also Speaking at the Opening Ceremony was the DG Of The Lagos State Sports Commission Mr Ayo Agbesanwa who commended the media for their support for all Lagos State Sport projects. He affirmed the support of the Lagos state Sports Commission for this lofty project.

Agbesanwa also revealed that the Lagos Marathon was already yielding results as the fastest Nigerian male and female were about to get sponsors who are interested in helping them advance their careers.

The under 15 tennis boys tournament is Organized in with technical support provided by the Lagos State Lawn Tennis Association and the Lagos State Sports Commission and also supported by The Lagos State School Sports federation.

Close to 200 students from public and private schools have registered to participate in the Tournament. Which served-off today, At the Rowe Park Sport Centre Yaba, while the finals will be played at the centre court of the National Stadium Tennis centre In Surulere, Lagos at 3pm on Saturday the 27th Of February 2016 The Organisers have promised make it an annual event with the Girls joining from the next edition.

The winners will be given trophies and training materials and they will also be drafted into the Lagos Under 16 tennis team under the auspices of the Lagos State Sports Commission.

…Ready to attempt whole 42km

Popular Nigeria Dancehall, artiste Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie a.k.a Patoranking is the latest celebrity act to sign on for the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

The multi-award winning musician was at the Lagos City Marathon office at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos on Tuesday where he picked a form to register for the first full international marathon in Nigeria in three decades.

Patoranking after completing his registration formalities said he was quite excited at the Lagos Marathon project and he hinted that he will be going the whole mile on February 6, 2016 when over 20,000 athletes are expected to participate in the first edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

“Of course, I am happy to sign on for the race, trust me I will run on that day, I know I can go the whole 42km” Patoranking boasted.

The accomplished dancehall artiste said if he was not into music, he would definitely have been into sports as he also has a soft spot for keeping fit and staying healthy.

“If not music, I am sure I will have been a sports person, I really like this idea of a marathon, even if you say I don’t have fats to burn; running can help me ease out stress so I am going to be one of the participants on February 6.” The Lagos-born artiste submitted.

Access Bank Lagos City Marathon: Olamide, Jimi Disu, Other Celebrities Sign Up

The secretariat of the Lagos City Marathon was a beehive of activities on today as music star Olamide Adedeji popularly called Olamide, media celebrity Jimi Disu, Rapper Ogunbote aka Jaayglow and national champion in 100m Adeseye Ogunlewe all signed on for the February 6, 2016 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

First to sign was rapper Jaayglow, the son of football coach Gbenga Ogunbote. The rapper said it is was an honour to be associated with Lagos Marathon while he also urged all Lagosians to come and run and for those that are not running, he appealed to them to come in their thousands to support the runners.

In his remarks, Tinubu thanked the celebrities for identifying with the Lagos Marathon even as he reiterated that arrangements are in top gear to ensure that Lagos hosts a world class event everybody will be proud of.

Nigeria’s Premier National 5 A-side Tournament Holds In Lagos #RoadToBangkok

The National Finals of the F5WC Tournament comes up on January the 15th-16th 2016 at the Campos Mini Stadium on Lagos Island. 16 teams of 7 each from different parts of Nigeria will converge on Lagos for two days of football hostilities at the end of which the last ream standing will get a chance to represent Nigeria at the F5WC Global tournament in Bangkok, Thailand in March 2016.

F5WC Nationals will be played in a round robin format as the 16 finalist have been drawn into 4 groups of 4 teams each with the top 2 teams qualifying for the Quater-finals.

The eventual winners will also get a giant trophy, medals and the sum of 1.5million Naira from the main Sponsors of the tournament, Olympic Milk.

Gov Ambode Appoints Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye As Senior Special Adviser On Sports

The Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode as Appointed Mr Anthony Adeyinka Adeboye as the Senior Special Assistant On Sports to the Governor Of Lagos state.

Adeboye who until recently was the Special Assistant to the former Governor of the state on football matters as been appointed by Governor Ambode as part of the new plans by the governor to reposition the state when it comes to sports.

Speaking with the media over the weekend the SSA expressed his gratitude to the governor and promised to repay the trust placed in him by working extra hard to make sure makes his impact felt across the entire length and breath of the state.
