The last time both teams met at this stage, it ended 6-1 in favour of Rivers Angels and Coach Edwin Okon believes his opponents have improved

“I thank God for the victory, FA cup is not a thing that you joke over and I have seen improvements in the team because we played them last year and there’s improvement this year, last year it was six, today is four so I want to say there’s improvement” Okon stated.

“We are the defending champions you can as well see the way the team plays, we’ll try as much as we can, some of our players are in the U-20 that are supposed to beef up the team but all the same we can’t stop the national assignment; we just make do with what we have to get to the finals, our target is just the cup because we’re the defending champions”

“We want to win it for the sixth time, we’ve won it five good times, I think if we win this, it will be the sixth time” He added.

Mercy Amanze who opened scoring for the team equally gave her thoughts after the game.

“Am so so happy for the victory, I have been putting in some extra training because of this competition, I always love playing in the Federations cup since I started my football career game” Said Amanze.

“ I am happy and I love the way my team played, we played in unity and God granted us victory today” she added.

COD Ladies coach and former captain of the Senior women’s National team, the Super Falcons, Ann Chiejine said her team faced a more experienced opponent.

“The graph is rising, I paraded young lads, young girls, school girls, two of them are in school, you cannot compare them with this people, but we’ll get there, give them two, three more years this people would have been old, we’ll take over” Ann said.

“It’s a gradual process, we have a structure, COD is a structured team, we have a structure, we have focus and we have our philosophy, so with time we’ll get to all this ones, we’re not keen about the goals, we want to see how our players can play together so give us one or two more years, but right now, we have come, we have seen and we’ll go back to our drawing boards” she added.

FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, Chiejine says its Now or never against Spain

Flamingoes assistant coach Ann Chiejine says there won’t be any escape route for Spain when they meet for the first time at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, at the Liberia Stadium on Friday for a semi-final ticket.

The Europeans had a 3-0 win over the Super Eagles at the Confederations Cup, but Chiejine shrugged off any pressure when the
Flamingoes lock horns with the Spanish girls for a place in the last four.

“The Flamingoes are different from the Super Eagles as we also have our good start in campaign for the finals. We are very prepared and with no fear, as we are sure of winning the match,” she said confidently.

Chiejine admitted that it was a Herculean task for the Flamingoes to arrive at this stage, adding that her ladies are now toughened to
withstand the rough and tumble stage of the competition.

“As I said earlier, the knockout stage is the most difficult stage of any competition but we are ready to beat Spain on Friday because our only aim of being here is to win the trophy,” noted Chiejine who was the first goalkeeper of the Super Falcons.

Assistant coach, Chiejine said as a matter of fact: “Like any team that is in the competition, we are here to win and we would try our
best to beat Spain.”

Nigeria will tackle Spain in the quarterfinal of the ongoing FIFA U17 World Cup at the White City’s 4,300 capacity Edgardo Baltodano stadium in Liberia Costa Rica on Friday morning by 3am Nigerian time.

“We’re motivated by Golden Eaglets to win in Costa Rica, says Chiejine…All games are like final for Us

Assistant Coach of the Nigeria U17 women national team, Ann Chiejine, has said that the success of the Golden Eaglets at winning the 2013 U17 World Cup in UEA have motivated the Flamingoes ahead of its FIFA U17 women World Cup in Costa Rica.

Nigeria will begin its campaign against China in Group D on Sunday at the tournament that holds from March 15th to April 4th.

Chiejine who spoke on the mood of the team ahead of its opening game against China said the team is fully prepared for the challenges and hope to take all games seriously.

“Yea, I believe in our girls so much – they know why they are here and it is not for jamboree. Little tips we have about China shows they are more attacking conscious and if they leave their defense open, hmmm…?

“Our boys, the Golden Eaglets wining the U17 World Cup have given the girls a morale booster that they can do it too. They will put
everything they have. I think our first game is important as the final match and by God grace after the match (China) we should be able to laugh,”say the first Super Falcons goalkeeper.

In her assessment of the team after over three months of preparation, she said, “We have prepared enough right from Nigeria – we played series of friendly matches, we lost only one, drew one and won the rest- we have trained enough, we have done everything we could do in terms of tactical, technical and physical aspect of it, which the girls have adapted well to.

“There is understanding and cohesion in the team – we are not going to leave any stone unturned -we will do our best with the preparation we have had, I think the girls are in high spirit and ready to go,” the assistant coach assured.

Meanwhile, the former Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiejine has appealed to the four players dropped from the 25-man list not to lose focus, she encouraged them to work hard for more opportunities with the U 17 and U 20 levels of the women National teams.

“We had 30 minutes chat with the girls; it is not that they are bad players but it not just their time yet. They should be happy making
the 25-man list; it’s an experience for them, many started with us but were dropped during the screening.

“It’s an eye-opener for them and ability to stand-up when you fall makes you what you are. The most important thing for them is to
continue to train, not to relent and work hard as there will be opportunity ahead for them in the U17 and U20 next time,” she urged.
