A tough competitive field awaits the 8 squads of the first-ever FINA Women’s Intercontinental Water Polo Tournament, the World League qualification event for Africa, America, Asia and Oceania, taking place in Riverside, Southern California (USA) on May 19-25, 2014. The participating teams are divided in two groups, as follows:
Group A: USA, Canada, Kazakhstan, Japan
Group B: Australia, Brazil, China, Venezuela
The highest-ranked four teams will secure a berth to join the top teams from the European tournament – Spain, Russia and Italy – in the fight for top honours at the FINA Women’s World League Super Final to be played in Kunshan (CHN) on June 10-15. Host China qualifies automatically for the Super Final.
Strong rivals include reigning Olympic gold medallists USA, Olympic bronze medallists Australia, defending World League champions China and 2016 Olympic Games host Brazil.
