2015 Women’s African Club Championship
Women are essential part of volleyball, but at the 2015 Women’s African Club Championship which is running underway in Cairo, Egypt since March 27 and continue till April 5, the women’s role is more obvious.
As a consequence of the African Volleyball confederation Strategic planning of giving more interest to the women’s refereeing, the CAVB decided to make a new record for women referees through appointing 9 female referees among a total of 18 officiating the competition figuring out 50 % of the total number making unrecorded presentation at any volleyball competition in the world.
CAVB Refereeing Commission President Mr Hassan Ahmed was happy to see the great performance of the female referees in the competition specially because they officiated the crucial matches of the first round till now.
“All the women referees are now on the spot and I’m happy to see them applying the code of neutrality throughout the competition and also showing good character and respect,” Said Mr Hassan.
“We followed the strategy of CAVB President Dr Amr Elwani of giving more interest to the women involvement in the sport and specially in refereeing. We started our strategy 3 years ago when we started with only 3 women referees and now our female referees have become 35 and we are looking forwards to increase the number in the near future.”
The 9 referees expressed their happiness to conduct the prestigious African championship and commented that they are proud to present their countries and Africa in the international competitions.
The nine female referees are Taghrid Khattab (EGY), Eyike Marthe (CMR), Oum Therase (CMR), Moshira Moftah (EGY), Rim Chebil (TUN), Amany Rashid (EGY), Naglaa Talaat (EGY), Nadine Nibigira (BUR) and Maha Abdullah (SUD).
