Cameroon To Organise 2016 Women’s African Olympic Qualifiers

Cameroon was selected by African Volleyball Confederation “CAVB” as a host for the prestigious Women’s African Olympic Qualifiers in the Capital Yaoundé February 12 to 19, 2016 with a record of 17 participating National federations.

The champions of this qualifier will represent Africa in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The qualifiers attracted 17 countries which are Algeria, Tunisia, Gambia, Cape Verde, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, Ghana, Congo RDC, Cameroon, Gabon, Kenya, Egypt, Uganda, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Madagascar.

CAVB put November 20, 2015 as a deadline to send the list of players to participate in the competition.

Algeria claimed the African Qualification tickets in the last 2 Olympics in Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

Gambia Sends Strong Beach Volleyball Squad To Continental Cup

The Gambia men and women beach volleyball team are up again for the second round of the Continental cup, a qualification competition for Rio Olympic Games. Gambia is paired in Group B along with Ghana, Senegal, Congo Brazzaville, Gabon and host Cote d’Ivoire for men, while the Women’s grouping will see Gambia faces Senegal – Burkina Faso – Ghana – Congo Brazzaville and Congo RDC.

The qualifiers are scheduled from November 11th to 16th in Ivorian Capital, Abidjan and the Gambia’s participation is fully funded by the Gambia National Olympic Committee under the leadership of Momodou Dibba.

Speaking earlier to Volleyball executives Dibba expressed his satisfaction on the progress made in volleyball and the recent exploits in Zone II. He reaffirmed his board continued support and urged the team to make Gambia proud. I want to see Gambia make it to the Rio Games and I am ready to support in all aspects Dibba concluded.

We are morally and spiritually prepared to meet any task down in Ivory Coast, Coach Ebrima Nyass said: “We are at the highest standard and our recent participation in the 11th All Africa Games has added more confidence and has also generated more experience for us in beach volleyball”.

Nyass said he is comfortable with the grouping and his men had already played against great volleyball nations like Angola, Nigeria, and Mozambique among others so the grouping is not considered to difficult for him. He sounded hopeful of his team creating an upset at the competition.

We are ready to make Gambia proud again, senior player Malick Jammeh said. “we are expecting a positive result in Ivory Coast and I am sure we will make it through to the final stage Jammeh assured”. The Gambian delegation leaves Banjul international Airport on November 9th to Abidjan via Dakar and returns on November 17th.

Angola Men And Nigeria Women Crowned All Africa Games Beach Volleyball Champions

All Africa Games Beach Volleyball- Finals

Angola Men and Nigeria Women’s Beach volleyball teams claimed the gold medals at the Beach Volleyball competition of 2015 All Africa Games held at Kintele Stadium in Brazzaville, Congo on Sunday.

Angola Men’s team pulled off a tough victory over neighbours Mozambique 2-0 (21-18, 21-18) in the final match to capture the gold medal after a great fought.

Nigeria Women’s team had to play a long tiebreaker to beat the favourites South Africa 2-1 (11-21, 21-13, 15-13) to claim their first gold medal in a senior championship.

South Africa men’s made the medal podium fully coming from zone 6 after they overcame Rwanda in the bronze medal match 2-0 (21-13, 21-15).

Rwanda made the podium in women’s competition after they won the bronze medal following their 2-0 (21-17, 21-16) victory over Kenya.

Rwanda, Nigeria And South Africa Claim Double Gender Victories At AAG Beach

Rwanda, Nigeria and South Africa teams were the heroes of day 2 of the Beach Volleyball competition at the 2015 All Africa Games as those teams had stunning victories at both men’s and Women’s competitions at new Kintele Stadium in Brazzaville, Congo on Thursday.

Rwanda Men’s team emerged victorious against Zimbabwe 2-0, while their women counterparts defeated also Zimbabwe in the same score.

Nigerian Men overwhelmed emerging Gambia team 2-0, while their women defeated Congo RD 2-0. South Africa had also double gender victories as their men beat Algeria 2-0 and the women topped Senegal 2-0.

The competition is held in 3 courts at the new Kintele Stadium in Brazzaville, Congo with the participation of 18 men and 16 women teams

Beach Volleyball competition at All Africa Games To Start With 34 Teams

The beach Volleyball competition at the 2015 All Africa Games gets underway in the new Kintele Stadium in Brazzaville, Congo on Wednesday with the participation of 18 men and 16 women teams.

CAVB President Dr Amr Elwani headed the technical meeting of the competition on Tuesday in presence of the Control Committee, officials and team representatives where the participating teams were divided into 4 preliminary Pools in both genders.

The top 2 teams from each of the preliminary pools will qualify to the knockout stage of the competitio known to continue until September 15.

The competition Day 1 features 12 matches in the Men’s category and 7 in the women’s on Wednesday. Programme will start at 14:00 local time.
