FIVB President Magnifies The Role Of Media For Volleyball Progress

The members of the Press Commission were gathered at the FIVB headquarters in Lausanne to ensure the International Volleyball Federation remains ahead of the curve in the world of sport.

The meeting began with a review of actions taken in 2015 following last year’s commission meeting, including a focus on video highlights, the use of social media and editorial coverage of the FIVB’s competitions.

FIVB President Dr Ary Graca magnified the role of media as a big engine for the continuous progress of volleyball as beloved sport all over the world. Even media is included in the major items in the FIVB 9 Goals Project presented to the commission.

“I’m happy to have a stimulating discussion about the role of the press in today’s world,” explained FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° during his opening address. “We face many challenges and the Press Commission has to understand what is happening now in the world of the media. We must look at ways to stimulate the audience. After all the greater innovations and changes we have made in the past three years, we have a great chance to promote volleyball even more, especially with such an iconic Olympic Games coming up in Brazil.

“We have to look to the future. When you’re driving a car you have to look forward. We have made progress, we are good, but we must strive to be excellent.”

The members of the commission heard a report on the FIVB’s key activities. A presentation of the FIVB 9 Goals Project detailed the federation’s long term strategic plan, which was developed to help direct the future work of the FIVB and ensure it realises the sport’s huge global potential. Discussion also turned around the Volleyball Your Way campaign, which aims to get everyone, at every level, to play volleyball.

Looking ahead to 2016, further improvements to the website were presented and social media statistics discussed. Media operations and accreditation issues were also examined. The meeting was completed with reports from the confederation press officers and a discussion focusing on social media, video, match highlights, the effective use of content and event promotion.

Emerging National Volleyball Federations honoured by FIVB President Graca

2015 in Review

Honouring the emerging National Federation during the 2015 CAVB Congress was one of the highlights of 2015 year.

During the Congress CAVB President Dr Amr Elwani called the presidents of 17 National Federation to be honoured with the CAVB order by the FIVB President Dr Ary Graca who expressed his happiness to see valuable volleyball and beach volleyball activity in new countries.

The 17 NFs honoured are Gambia, Cape Verde, Mali (Zone 2), Niger, Ghana, Benin (Zone 3), Congo Brazzaville, Sao Tome (Zone 4), Eretria, Somalia (Zone 5), Namibia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe (Zone 6), Mauritius, Madagascar (Zone 7), beside Egypt and Kenya who achieved a world class results.

Gambia: Emerged in Beach volleyball as they qualified to the semifinal stage of CAVB Continental Cup and won the regional phase gold medal in Women’s category and silver in Men’s. Orgaised successful refereeing and coaching courses.

Cape Verde: They participated in most of Beach volleyball competitions at the continental and zonal level beside the qualification for All Africa Games in both genders.

Mali: Organized courses at coaching and refereeing beside participation in Zonal competitions.

Niger: Emerged with a wide participation at the zonal and continental levels specially in beach volleyball. They participated in the Women’s Volleyball competition at All Africa Games.

Ghana: Showed a surprising performance in both men and women All Africa Games competition beside the great performance in beach volleyball qualifying also to the World Championship.

Benin: One of the pillars of Beach Volleyball in West Africa. Emerged in the zonal indoor and Beach competitions and qualified to All Africa Games.

Congo Brazzaville: Organised successfully All Africa Games as their team stands in the Podium for the first time with the silver medal in Men’s volleyball competition. They have been honoured to organise the prestigious Olympic Qualifiers.

Sao Tome: Appeared in the volleyball map for the first time with the organisation of courses and start regular local competitions.

Eretria: Showed start of local competitions and orgainse continental and international courses.

Somalia: Sponsored their local league which has become a more successful competition and organised a successful coaching course.

Namibia: Had a successful Beach Volleyball local tours and qualified to Beach Volleyball Semifinal at the CAVB Continental Cup.

Mozambique: Showed more progress in Beach Volleyball and won the silver medal of Men’s All Africa Games beside continuing the great local build up in infrastructure. Qualified to both men’s and Women’s All Africa Games in volleyball.

Zimbabwe: Were the models of starting the African Dream Project and had the first presentation during the congress.

Mauritius: Great activity in beach volleyball qualifying to All Africa Games and semifinal of the Continental Cup.

Madagascar: Orginised a historic zone 7 Club Championship with the participation of 13 teams. Organised a lot of courses at the zonal and continental levels.

Egypt: Won gold medal World League Group 3 and won 6 consecutive Africa Nations championship titles.

Kenya: stands in the Gold medal podium in Group 3 of the World Grand Prix. Won a record of 9 African Nations Championship’s title.

CAVB Congress closes, with Endorsement Of FIVB President Graca

The 2015 CAVB Elective Congress came to close with a wide support for Dr Ary Graca as the only candidate for the 53 attending African National Federations at the upcoming FIVB presidential elections next year.

In his closing speech, CAVB Re-elected president Dr Amr Elwani said that the whole African National Federations are fully supporting Dr Graca to continue for a new term as president of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).

After Elwani’s speech, the whole attending NFs applauded saying Ary… Ary… Ary, supporting him after the great work he did for Africa during his 3 year presidency.

Dr Ary closed the meeting promising the full house of African countries to continue the great work for Africa as he is convinced with their ability to be on top of the world.

Elwani Receives FIVB Grand Cross

CAVB President Dr Amr Elwani received the FIVB Grand Cross from FIVB President Dr Ary Graca in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the African and World volleyball during his 17 year involvement in FIVB work since 1998.

Graca honoured Elwani with the golden collar which is considered the highest FIVB decoration offered by the volleyball governing body against a wide reaction from the attending delegates.

CAVB President received the collar with a great hug to the FIVB President and big applauds form the African counties.

Early on Friday, Elwani was re-elected as CAVB President after democratic elections against 2 other candidates; Idriss Dokony form Chad and David Kabre from Burkina Faso.

The ambitious African Dream Project activities were presented during the second day of CAVB Congress in Alger, Algeria on Friday through a video showing the progress of the project that is supervised by FIVB President Dr Ary Graca.

CAVB Executive director Howyda Mondy showed through the presentation the steps done in order to ensure the full success of the project through one common report template. She also thanked Dr Graca for giving the chance to the poor young children in Africa to practise the sport that keep them away from drugs and wrong behaviours.

“This is a historic video showing how Africa is working, in my opinion it shows how the African deals with the reality,” Said FIVB President Graca.

“I need to send one word to the Africans, work, work” He said.

African Volleyball Confederation “CAVB” Elective Congress opened on Thursday at Hilton Hotel in Alger, Algeria in presence of guests of honour led by FIVB President Dr Ary Graca and Algerian Minister of Sport El Hadi Ould Ali.

CAVB President Dr Amr Elwani opened the ceremony with a welcome speech to the FIVB president, the Algerian Minister and all the delegates.

“We appreciate the great work done by Algerian Volleyball Federation and the Algerian Authorities to host the 2015 CAVB Elective Congress here in Algeria,” said Elwani

“I want to thank also the FIVB President Dr Ary Graca for his attendance and continued support to the African NFs.”

FIVB President Addresses Cavb Board Of Administration Ahead Of Elective Congress

CAVB President Dr Amr Elwani opened the African Volleyball Confederation “CAVB” board of Administration on Wednesday with a welcome speech for the attendance led by FIVB President Dr Ary Graca who attended the whole meeting.

Dr Ary addressed the board of Administration and encouraged the members to continue the hard work for volleyball in Africa.

“I will show you in the Congress tomorrow what we are doing in the FIVB and what we have been doing for Africa since 2012. I’m convinced that Africa can do it,” Said Graca.

“In Brazil 60% of the population are of African origin and thus I know the capabilities of the African athletes. What I want to say about to you, “Help me to help you” I need your cooperation and projects to develop the sport properly. Now 25 % of FIVB support comes to Africa and this means you need to continue working hard to convince the people everywhere that you deserve it.”

The Board approved the Congress Agenda that will start on Thursday and approved also the list of candidates for the elections including 3 for the presidency, 6 for the vice Presidents, 2 for gender minority and 5 for FIVB Board.

FIVB President Dr Ary Graca Arrives Algeria For CAVB Elective Congress

FIVB President Dr Ary Graca arrived the Algerian capital on Tuesday to attend the 2015 elective Congress due to be held on December 3 and 4, 2015.

The CAVB Congress will feature among other numerous items in the agenda the election of new Board of Administration for the new mandate 2015-2019.

The elections will see 3 candidates compete for the presidency of CAVB, the current President Dr Amr Elwani along with Chad VB Federation President Idriss Dokony and the corresponding Burkina Faso President David Kabre.

“We are happy to receive Dr Graca here after his great support for Africa since he was elected as FIVB President in 2012,” said Elwani. “He had a great hand in starting the “African Dream Project” under his name as a great tool for the future of African Volleyball.”

CAVB President Elwani meets Algerian NOC President

African Volleyball Confederation President Dr Amr Elwani was received by Algerian National Olympic Committee President Mustapha Berraf upon his arrival to the Algerian Capital in preparation for the 2015 CAVB Congress to be held December 3 and 4.

Berraf thanked CAVB for choosing Algeria to host the biannual event and promised to make everything available for a successful electoral Congress.

The 2015 CAVB Congress will be attended by Dr Ary Graca, the FIVB President.

African Dream Makes Progress in Namibia

The African Dream Project made new strides in Namibia after it was implemented a few weeks ago. The project which was named after “Dr. Ary Graca Volleyball Development Program for Africa” as it comes from the great interest of the World Volleyball Governing body “FIVB” to help volleyball development from scratch.

The project is created to introduce Volleyball to Children across the Continent.

The project is now actively progressing as the 4 centers are now up and running in Oshana, Kavango East, Zambezi and Khomas throughout the South African country.

Participating children showed more enthusiasm to practice volleyball and started to use the skills properly day by day expressing their happiness to start early to play volleyball.
