2014 CAVB Board of Administration – Elwani emphasises the great development of volleyball in Africa
CAVB President Dr Amr Elwani featured the great development of African volleyball during the last 12 months due to the great efforts done by all the board members and the sounding support for the International Volleyball governing body FIVB after President Dr Ary Graca took over the responsibility with his great ability to aid the sport form the scratch.
Elwani showed in his activity report in front of the CAVB Board of Administration on Thursday, the most important initiative, “the African dream Project” which will be implemented under the name of FIVB President. He figured out the great unity of the whole board during the 2013 CAVB Congress in Rwanda
CAVB President thanked the whole commissions for the great job they have done during their meetings in the past 12 months. He added that those commission added strength to CAVB strategies.
“We invested 450.000 CHF in 2013 in courses and development where more than 500 participants got the benefit of these programs in 21 different countries,” said Elwani.
“We also renovated the Development centers and each center should organize at least 3 courses per year to help the neighbouring countries beside the VCP courses supervised by FIVB.”
He showed also the big jump in the number of international referees to 213 which helped African referees to arise also at the international level.
“One of the major highlights of the year was the 2014 World Championship Qualification which included 36 tournaments at the Sun Zonal, Zonal and finals. We spent 1,200.000 CHF as a support from the FIVB to finally qualify 5 teams (3 men and 2 women) to the World Championships finals in Poland and Italy.”
“We need also to evaluate the great development in Beach Volleyball Activity attracting more than 40 countries out of the 53 affiliated National Federation. We had also good work in the age group African Championships qualifying to the World Championships,”
“We also want to highly evaluate the great work done by the media to cover the sport throughout the continent and transfer a good image for the sport to the whole world. He also emphasised the role of the Social media in covering the whole activity giving fast and comprehensive information on time.”
CAVB Treasurer Habu Gumel in conjunction with the CAVB Finance Director presented the financial report which was approved by the Board.
CAVB Executive Director Howyda Mondy presented Volleyball activity report and showed the long way of the World Championship qualifiers which included 36 tournaments and featured 39 countries and 330 matches in men’s and Women’s category.
She also evaluated the great participation in both men and women African Club Championships in Tunisia early this year,”
