Seminar takes centre stage as Lagos SWAN week continues

With the successful kick off of the 2015 Lagos SWAN Week which started on Sunday, The 26th, July 2015 with the ceremonial match between the SWAN veterans and ex-internationals which ended in a 2-2 draw, followed by group games on Monday and Tuesday, the Seminar and Health talk will take centre stage on Wednesday, 29th, July 2015.

The seminar which will be held at the secretariat of the Association situated inside the National stadium, Surulere by 11:00am and will be chaired by Rev. Moses Iloh

According to the organizers, the keynote lecture will focus on “Funding Sports in Nigeria” to be delivered by Director General of the National sports commission, Alhassan Yakmut while President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Melvin Pinnick will speak on “Globalizing Nigerian sports: A challenge for the Nigerian media”.

According to the Chairman of the Local organizing committee for the 2015 SWAN week, Debo Oshundun, this initiative is a continuation of the vision of the last year’s committee in their quest to improve the standard of sports reportage in Lagos which will have a ripple effect on the profession in Nigeria.

Oshundun also revealed that Lagos SWAN member Colin Udoh as been scheduled for a brief presentation on the “Effective Use of Social Media For Journalist” and this is supposed to serve as a teaser to the Upcoming workshop on Social Media being planned for later this year by the LagosSWAN Exco. Rounding off the Seminar is brief talk on “Healthy Living” and a medical team will be on ground from 10:00am to conduct free health checks for journalists, interested members of staffs of the National sports commission and the general public.

Pinnick, Yakmut Are Keynote Speakers At 2015 Lagos SWAN Week Annual Lecture

The 2015 Lagos SWAN Week Local Organising Committee has announced that Director General of the National Sports commission Alhassan Yakmut and the President of the Nigeria Football federation Amaju Pinnick will be keynote speakers at this year’s Lagos SWAN Week Seminar which takes place on the 29th of July 2015 at the Lagos SWAN Secretariat.

The Chairman Of the LOC Debo Oshundun in A Press release made available to Journalist on Monday revealed that the Lagos SWAN Week was not only about football as the Seminar as been planned to bring to the fore important Issues affecting Nigerian Sports.

The DG of the NSC, Alhassan Yakmut’s Paper will be on “Funding Sports in Nigeria” while The NFF President Mr Amaju Melvin Pinnick will speak on “Globalizing Nigerian sports: A challenge for the Nigerian media”

Both Speakers have graciously agreed to Speak at this year’s seminar which scheduled to kick of at 11:00 am at the Lagos SWAN Secretariat hall inside the National Stadium Surulere, Lagos.

The 2015 Lagos SWAN Week actually kicks off at four O’clock on Friday the 24th of July with a Match Between Ex-internationals And Lagos SWAN Veterans at the Legacy Pitch Of the National Stadium Surulere Lagos, while the Group Stages will commence on Monday the 27th Of July 2015.

The Finals which will also see Sports journalist compete in a “Tug Of War” competition alongside the third place play offs and finals of the football event comes up the 31st of July 2015.

2015 Winners Golden Bet/Lagos SWAN Cup Draws Holds In Lagos

The Press conference and Draws for the 2015 Winners Golden Bet/Lagos SWAN cup took place on Wednesday 17th of July, 2015 at the association’ secretariat situated inside the Lagos National stadium, Surulere in an event chaired by its chairman, Fred Edoreh.

The event which started around 12 noon was also attended by the title sponsors, Winners Golden Bet and also 5Sports who have also partnered Lagos SWAN for the 2015 “Lagos SWAN Week” which holds at the Legacy pitch of the National Stadium.

In his opening remark, Chairman of Lagos Sports Writer Association of Nigeria, Fred Edoreh commended journalists present for finding a time out of their busy schedule to come for the event which officially heralded the commencement of this year’s edition of the Lagos SWAN Week, The Opening Ceremony comes up on the 24th of July with the game between SWAN veterans and Nigerian ex-internationals.

Also speaking at the event Debo Oshundun chairman of the Lagos SWAN Sports Committee assured that this year’s event promises to be action packed, Explaining that the Addition of the “Tug Of War” Competition to this year’s SWAN Week was Geared towards Adding Spice to the SWAN Week, Oshundun While Thanking Title Sponsors Winners Golden Bet And Other Partners like the Nigerian Sports Awards, OWU Sportswear and 5 Sports limited called on well meaning Corporate Bodies and Nigerians to come Partner with SWAN towards making events like this more Successful.

The Draws Proper was Conducted by the Immediate past Vice Chairman of Lagos SWAN and Lagos State FA Board member Wale Joseph, Assisted by Lagos SWAN Sports Committee member Tega Onajaife.

Last year’s Silver winning team City FM are drawn in Group A with Radio Nigeria, Voice of Nigeria and SuperSport Nigeria.

Group B is made up of TVC, SilverBird Television, Sports vision, Inspiration FM and Cool FM.

The NTA will face Nations/Sportinglife, Channels Television and Skysports Nigeria in Group C. And Last but not the least Defending Champions Sports battle with News Agency of Nigeria, Complete Sports and Top Radio.

Fixtures for the Group Stages of the Winners Golden Bet SWAN Cup will be released on Monday and The Legacy pitch of the National Stadium in Surulere will host all the matches for this year’s edition of the SWAN Cup.
