Switzerland wins 2014 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas title

Switzerland defeated France 3-1 to win the 2014 Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Final in Lille on Sunday. It is Switzerland’s first Davis Cup title, and it becomes only the 14th champion nation in the 115-year-old competition.

Roger Federer became the most successful Swiss player in Davis Cup history, recording his 50th Davis Cup singles or doubles victory over Richard Gasquet on Sunday to seal Switzerland’s triumph.

Sunday’s play set a new record for number of spectators at an officially-sanctioned tennis match with a crowd of 27,448, surpassing the 27,432 spectators who attended on Friday.
