GO AND RECLAIM THE AWC TITLE – Jonathan

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has charged the Super Falcons to ensure that they do not only dismiss Rwanda from the Africa women championship (AWC) but go ahead to reclaim the title they lost two years.

Speaking through the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC) Gbenga Elegbeleye at the Falcons last training session before their departure to Kaduna for return leg duel with Rwanda, GEJ noted that the performance of the girls have not gone unnoticed.

President Jonathan urged the Falcons to consolidate on the first leg 4-1 victory by beating the She-Amavubi soundly to qualify for the AWC in Namibia in October.

“We expect you to send the Rwandese packing in style and go ahead to win the cup. You have to reclaim the title you lost two years ago to prove you are the best women team in Africa” said the DG who watched the team train with some Directors of the NSC.

“Falcons may have gone down two years ago but I believe strongly that no team in Africa can challenge you girls with the kind of play I have just watched and your performance so far” he stated.

Responding, team skipper Evelyn Nwabuoku said they would work towards beating the visitors and ultimately go ahead to win back the AWC adding “we shall not fail the nation and ourselves”

Super Falcons trained at the practice pitch which is grass in preparation for their match which will be played on grass at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium and they are billed to depart Abuja for Kaduna Wednesday morning where they will play the second leg AWC qualifier against Rwanda on Saturday.

NFF To Take Legal Action Against Ambushing Corporates

The Nigeria Football Federation will not hesitate to take legal action against corporate institutions that seek to exploit the Super Eagles’ participation at the 2014 FIFA World to gain undue advantage, without any prior agreement with the NFF concerning the team.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, NFF General Secretary, Barrister Musa Amadu decried the trend of flair for ambush marketing by some corporate bodies, who are keen to reap where they did not sow.

“We are disturbed by the ceaseless craze for ambush marketing, with some corporate establishments continuing to innovate on a daily basis in order to look innocent. This is very unfair.

“Such misplaced ingenuity could as well be deployed to convincing the NFF on having a sponsorship agreement with the Federation on the Super Eagles, or any of the National Teams.”

Amadu said the Federation has set up a monitoring team to check the activities of these organizations and report back to it, with a view to seeking legal action and appropriate damages against erring establishments.

“These organizations know what to do to be legitimate supporters of the National Teams or any aspect of Nigeria football. But they prefer the short cut of ambush marketing and trying to harvest where they did not sow. We will no longer take things easy with these violators.”

Amadu used the opportunity to praise all NFF’s partners and sponsors for their faith in the Federation and the National Teams, especially those who have continued to fulfill their contractual obligations, to enable the NFF supplement funds from Government to prepare the National Teams for international engagements.
